'Murder on Middle Beach' Finale: Ali finds out Conway suspects her of Barbara's murder, here's how she reacted

In HBO's four-part docuseries, 'Murder on Middle Beach', filmmaker Madison Hamburg investigates the truth behind the murder of his mother, Barbara Beach. In March 2010, Barbara Hamburg was found violently murdered near her home in Madison, Connecticut. Investigators speculated her murder appeared to be a crime of passion, but without enough evidence, the case grew cold.
Over the course of nearly 10 years, Barbara's son, Madison Hamburg, interviewed his family members and many others, to learn more about his mother and try and figure out her murder. While the main suspect was Madison's father, and Barbara's ex-husband, Jeffrey Hamburg, Madison's investigation uncovered other possibilities. One of those possibilities was his own sister, Ali Hamburg. His aunt, (Barbara's sister), Conway Beach strongly believed that Ali was the one who killed Barbara.
It was Conway who found Barbara's body after bringing Ali home from school when the latter said her mother was not responding to her texts. Conway recreates the scene as she explains to the camera what they first saw and how Conway came across her body. As they walked to the front door, they noticed that the dog statue placed in front of it was knocked over and broken. Ali notices her mother's purse and keys and when Conway reaches out to take them, Ali tries to stop her, saying it is a crime scene. Moreover, soon after the murder, Ali left the United States and settled in Argentina after traveling across South America. According to Conway, Ali potentially went to school after murdering her mother, and then called both Barbara's and Conway's phones to establish an alibi.
In the series finale, Madison finds a recording of the moment that both Ali and Conway realized that Barbara was not just injured, but also dead. He also calls up Ali's school to confirm when she would have reached school and left. In doing so, he confirms that Barbara was indeed the one who dropped Ali off at school, and as the latter had mentioned, she was in her pajamas. He also confirms that Ali only left school when Conway came to pick her up. Once Madison confirms this, he informs Conway, who seems to be in disbelief that she was wrong.
Later, Madison travels to Argentina, where Ali is now settled, for her marriage. There, Madison tells Ali that Conway suspected her and he is telling her then so that she does not find out through the documentary. Ali understands that Conway is not well and says she does not blame her aunt for her remarks. She also remarks that she did not run away as her aunt insisted, but that she chose to move on. Ali also tells her brother that ever since her mother was killed, she had always been looking for a home, and now, she has found it.
In Argentina, Ali gets married. Madison is the only family member from Ali's side in attendance.
'Murder on Middle Beach' aired on HBO on Sunday nights at 10/9c. The concluding episode aired on Sunday, December 6.
