Hayley Williams sings Tegan & Sara's 'Call It Off', lovestruck fans shower praises: 'She's national treasure'
Hayley Williams, the lead singer of Paramore, has been making the most of her time under lockdown sharing some solid music for her fans. Williams took to social media to share her latest at-home performance on April 14 of a cover of 'Call It Off', the hit track off the studio album 'The Con', the fifth by her friends Tegan and Sara.
Williams' cover follows recent performances by the artist during the coronavirus pandemic. On April 7, Williams shared a workout video for those under quarantine, using the song 'Over Yet' from her debut solo EP ‘Petals For Armor I' and on the same day she sang a cover of Phoebe Bridgers' 'Smoke Signals'.
In the video Williams shared on Instagram, the songstress plays her acoustic guitar and takes the original song's tempo down a notch, serenading with the melancholy tune. At the end of the clip, she says, "Only one mistake."
In her caption for the upload, she wrote, "amateur hour / self-serenade (sic)," adding "my strings are old, i have no pants on, i felt like playing this sad song. 'Call It Off' by the pals @teganandsara (sic)." Williams also shared a shortened version on Twitter where she revealed, "just wanna say it was a rough handfulla days and im tryin to come out of it. music is the only constant right now, for me (sic)." She also left a note for Tegan and Sara: "ps i hope yall doing good. this song always made me cry, thank you for it. (sic)," she says.
Fans were quick to respond to the message, sharing both love and appreciation for the performance as well as encouraging their favorite singer through some difficult times. "This is beautiful, proud of you for pushing through," says a fan while another wrote, "Hayley, we love you so much and I am so blessed to have you as an influence in my life. You’ve kept me afloat through my dark times when nobody else would. I hope that maybe some words from your fans can make you feel a little better right now. Keep kicking a**! We need you:) (sic)."
Fans gave a lot of love for Williams, describing her as "a national treasure" and having "a voice from heaven." One fan says, "if you do a live on instagram only singing with a guitar... i will not complain (sic)."
