Have the Oak Island treasures been found? A look at the potential treasures under infamous cursed island
NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA: 'The Curse of Oak Island' Season 11 is on the way.
Over the years, the fans of the History show have been curious to learn whether the treasure hunters managed to find any significant treasure on Oak Island.
In 'The Curse of Oak Island', brothers Rick and Marty Lagina and their team will do whatever it takes to find the treasure buried on the famed island.
Did the treasure hunters find treasure on Oak Island?
In the last couple of years, author Joy Steele and professional geologist Gordon Fader have worked together to find evidence of human activities on Oak Island.
During the process, their speculations about manufacturing activity on Oak Island in the 1700s have only strengthened. They are still trying to collect more evidence.
As per their new research, they have found some evidence that suggests there is really no treasure as previously thought and that the geology of the island has fooled the people right from the start.
What are the items found on Oak Island?
Some of the finds have been carbon-dated and found to be only 100 years old. The 'Money Pit' was discovered in 1795.
The items found on Oak Island include a jewellery brooch, a granite stone, coconut fibres, swages, bone fragments, a chain, ancient manuscripts, leather bookbinding, a Roman sword, Roman numerals, Fred Nolan's cross, Templar coin, Templar cross, crossbow bolt, Spanish coin, Spanish silver ring, ship brace, ship spikes, encampment of Samuel Ball and a silver button, among others.
These items can be seen as a treasure in their own right but up until now, no significant treasure has been found on Oak Island.
What type of treasure could be under Oak Island?
The following treasures could be under Oak Island:
Pirate treasure
One of the most popular theories about Oak Island states that the island contains the treasure buried by a 17th-century captain called Captain Kidd.
As per a local legend, one of Kidd's dying crew members claimed that a treasure worth $2 million was buried under the island.
Spanish naval treasure
A treasure hunter named Dan Blankenship thinks that a 16th-century Spanish galleon filled with gold from America could be buried under Oak Island.
Shakespeare's manuscripts
There's a theory that the 16th-century author Sir Francis Bacon was actually the man behind the works of William Shakespeare, and that his original manuscripts could be under the island.
The Holy Grail and Ark of the Covenant
Knights Templar, a religious order, supposedly had a great treasure that contained the Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant. It could be among the treasures buried on Oak Island, according to some theories.
A Viking ship
As per one theory, the Money Pit is a Viking ship which turned vertically during the sinking process.
Marie Antoinette's jewels
It has been suggested that during the French Revolution of the late 1700s, Marie Antoinette gave all her jewels to her lady-in-waiting who flew to Nova Scotia.
Money from Fort Louisbourg
Fort Louisbourg was a Nova Scotian French Fort which was given to the British in the mid-18th century. The Money Pit is said to be French and naval in style.
Some researchers have mentioned that the island treasure contains money from the fort.
British imperial treasures
In 1762, the British captured the Cubana city of Havana, coming into a large amount of money in the process.
It has been claimed that the British buried the money near Oak Island to protect it from the Americans.
Freemason artefacts
The discovery of markings, symbols, and more from the Money Pit have led to a theory that it could be a Masonic secret vault.
An ancient Coptic pit
Some hunters have stated that the symbols on the stone obtained from the Money Pit resemble the Coptic alphabet.
Many believe that Coptic Christians from Egypt came to Oak Island and created the pit.
A tar kiln
It is also believed that Oak Island was once a tar-making location for the British Navy.
Author Joy Steele has mentioned that the tar-making kilns of the time looked similar to the Oak Island Money Pit.
A sinkhole
At least one sinkhole has been discovered on the Oak Island. The soft ground in the sinkhole gives the impression that it has been dug before.
