CBS drops major update on ‘Tracker’ Season 4 future as Colter Shaw nears truth behind his father’s murder
As the current chapter of ‘Tracker’ edges closer to its finale, fans now have a clearer idea of what lies ahead. CBS has confirmed that the action-driven drama will return for Season 4, keeping its familiar Sunday night slot. While an exact premiere date hasn’t been locked in yet, the network made it clear the show will return this fall as part of its 2026–2027 lineup. The announcement came during CBS’ programming reveal event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, where the network laid out its upcoming schedule. Rather than shaking things up, the channel is sticking with what already works. ‘Tracker’ will continue airing at 9 p.m. There’s a reason they’re not messing with the formula because it's been pulling in big numbers week after week.
At the center of it all is Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, a survivalist who tracks down missing people for reward money. He operates mostly on his own, relying on instinct and experience. But beneath the weekly cases, there’s a thread running through the story. Colter is still trying to make sense of what happened to his father, Ashton Shaw, played by Lee Tergesen. That unresolved case has been hanging over him for a long time, and recent episodes suggest that some long-awaited answers might finally be within reach. The third season is heading toward its final episode, set to air on May 24. One of the big talking points of the finale is the return of Jensen Ackles as Colter’s older brother, Russell. But, before the finale arrives, there are still a couple of episodes left to air.
The next installment, Episode 17, is scheduled to drop on Sunday, giving viewers more pieces of the puzzle before everything comes to a head. Another change this season has been the spotlight on supporting characters. Fiona Rene, who plays Reenie, has had more time in the forefront. Her character, who serves as both a trusted ally and occasional romantic interest for Colter, has been dealing with her own issues. She’s been pushing herself hard professionally while also trying to figure out her personal life. The cast itself has gone through a few changes recently. Chris Lee has stepped up as a regular, playing Randy, a tech-savvy character who helps behind the scenes.
He was first introduced as Bobby's cousin, played by Eric Graise. Bobby departed the series at the end of season 2. Around the same time, Abby McEnany, who played Velma Bruin, also exited the show. Her storyline wrapped up with her choosing to reconnect with Teddi (Robin Weigert), who had left earlier. Even with these changes, the show hasn’t lost its footing. Meanwhile, the show’s foundation comes from Jeffery Deaver’s novel ‘The Never Game’, which introduced the character of Colter Shaw. The TV adaptation has taken that concept, building a world where each case brings new risks, while the main character carries his past with him wherever he goes.
