‘High Potential’ just hit a major milestone and it couldn’t come at a better time for Season 3
'High Potential' recently returned following its midseason hiatus on ABC. The Winter premiere ticked off all the boxes in terms of sustaining the procedural's hype. Kaitlin Olson's Morgan Gillory shines forth brilliantly in the latter half of the show's sophomore season. Although 'High Potential' hasn't yet been officially renewed for a third season, one might hope for good news in this direction to trickle down soon, given the show's remarkable performance and critical success.
'High Potential' can easily be counted among the top ten most-watched shows of 2024 - 2025, as claimed by Collider. The ABC show's popularity stems from its relatable protagonist navigating the world of a conventional police procedural with a significant twist: Morgan is an independent consultant who isn't always inhibited by the characteristic bureaucracy and red tape that often hinders the actions of a regular police department. In doing so, she often gets on the nerves of her by-the-book colleague, i.e., Karadec, as she clashes with the typical police procedure.
FlixPatrol recently confirmed that 'High Potential' season two has been steadily climbing the charts of global popularity at Disney+, where it now occupies the third position. Steven Knight's 'A Thousand Blows' and the second season of the Disney show 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' lie ahead. The surging popularity of the show has even enabled it to surpass 'Tracker' on CBS, as well as the famed '9-1-1' on its home network, ABC. Given this immense success, it seems to be just a matter of time before ABC renews the show for a third season. The sophomore season has been so far upping the ante, with Morgan involved in a captivating romantic fling of her own. The Winter premiere, titled 'The One Who Got Away: Part Two,' chronicled Morgan growing suspicious of her lover, Rhys, played by Aidan Turner. This followed their steamy make-out session, during which Morgan discovered a scar on Rhys that led her to believe he was indeed the infamous art thief Jean Baptiste, according to Deadline.
Showrunner Todd Harthan recently spoke about the upcoming events of the sophomore season in an interview with the news outlet, "I think that as we tumble towards our Season 2 penultimate, finale, I think the audience can look forward to just as satisfying, if not even more exhilarating push-off into a potential Season 3. What we’re plotting and planning has a different flavor than what we did last year, but I think it’s gonna be even more personal, even more propulsive, even more surprising than what we did in Season 1, because we’ve learned some things and the characters have gotten richer."
Similarly, in another interview with The Wrap, Harthan opened up about the sophomore season's positive reception when he said, "The feedback has been great, and I listen to it … we all do. We look at what the audience is really responding to, what they have a big appetite for, and it doesn’t dictate what we do, but you have to listen to that." 'High Potential' season two airs new episodes Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC. The episodes are also available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
