FALKIRK, SCOTLAND: Robbie Coltrane, the legendary actor best known for his role as 'Hagrid' in 'Harry Potter' died of multiple organ failure, according to his death certificate, Daily Mail reported. The 72-year-old Harry Potter star died on October 14. He reportedly had sepsis, a lower respiratory tract infection, Type 2 diabetes, a heart block, and obesity at the time of his death. These factors, in addition to the organ failure, contributed to his unfortunate death.

According to the Daily Star, Coltrane's ex-wife Rhona Gemmell registered his death in Glasgow. He was believed to have been ill for some time prior to his death. The fact that he had to cancel his appearance at the London Comic Con in June due to illness fueled rumors that he was dealing with serious health problems earlier this year, reports Daily Mail.

The Scottish actor, whose real name is Anthony Robert McMillan was born in Rutherglen, United Kingdom, in 1950. He is survived by his sister Annie McMillan, his children Spencer and Alice, and his wife Rhona Gemmell. Coltrane was honored with an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II during the 2006 New Year Honours for his contribution to drama. In 2011, he was honored by the British Academy Scotland Awards ('BAFTA Scotland Awards) for his outstanding contribution to film. He also won several awards including the British Academy Television Award and the Royal Television Society Award among many others. He even gave the voice for The Old Man of Lochnagar, the BBC adaptation of King Charles' children's book.

He co-starred in comedic and acting classics throughout his stellar career with people like Julie Walters, Ben Elton, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson, and Siobhan Redmond. Belinda Wright, Coltrane's agent, called him a "unique talent" and reported that the star died on Friday. "Please respect Robbie's family's privacy at this distressing time," she added.

She said in a statement, "My client and friend Robbie Coltrane OBE passed away on Friday, October 14. Robbie was a unique talent." The statement continued, "For me personally I shall remember him as an abidingly loyal client. As well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him," as per Daily Mail.

In his later years, he made fewer film and television appearances, but he came back for an interview for HBO's 'Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts', where he discussed how his legacy as Hagrid would endure far beyond his own life. He said in the interview, "The legacy of the movies is that my children's generation will show it to their children, so you could be watching it in 50 years' time easy. I'll not be here sadly...but Hagrid will."
