LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Fans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got a first glimpse of their bombshell Netflix documentary series as Prince William and Princess Kate began the second day of their US visit. The hotly-anticipated series is expected to air next Thursday, December 8.

The Sussexes are said to have been paid $100 million for the fly-on-the-wall docuseries, which is expected to level even more damaging accusations against the embattled Royal Family. The timing of the release was criticized as the Prince and Princess of Wales began their US tour on an awkward note due to a scandal stemming from the alleged "racist" comments made by Lady Susan Hussey at an event hosted by Queen Consort Camilla.

The Netflix trailer opens with a producer asking, "Why do you want to make this documentary?" followed by a reel of black and white photos capturing Meghan cradling her baby bump and dancing with Harry at their wedding among other memories. Harry then chimes in saying, "No one sees what goes on behind closed doors," before viewers are shown an emotional shot of the duchess on the phone with her head in her hands. "I had to do everything I could to protect my family," the duke is later heard saying.

The Sussexes announced their deal with Netflix just six months after buying a home in California in March 2020. The Duke and Duchess said their company, later named Archewell Productions, would team up with the streaming giant to make documentaries, feature films, scripted shows, and children's programming. Meghan teased this summer that the upcoming documentary would focus on their "love story." The Duchess told The Cut in an interview that her five-year-long romance with the Duke is one of the "pieces of her life" she hasn't been able to share with the public. "The piece of my life I haven't been able to share, that people haven't been able to see, is our love story," she insisted.

Critics, however, blasted the couple after the trailer dropped, noting its apparent clash with William and Kate's tour across the Atlantic. "How many times are we going to hear their story? I've heard nothing but their story for 2 years at this point," one tweet read. "Oh dear…we are perfect…look at us," another quipped. "What’s next after this? They told the same story to Omid, Oprah, Spotify, Netflix, etc. They cannot offer anything else," scoffed another critic. "When William and Catherine are in the US, of course," a comment read.

"Meghan is such a victim. Burying her face in her hands with a Hermes cashmere blanket behind her, wiping her face with her hand inside a limousine, and wiping her face again in what looks like the inside of a skyscraper apartment or luxury hotel. Oh, the stakes are so so high," another wrote in sarcasm. "Something to miss, I think I have paint to watch dry it will have more integrity," yet another joked.
