Coronavirus: Guns N' Roses perform 'So Fine' in Mexico City for first time in 27 years despite outbreak
Despite the music concert industry coming to a complete halt globally with the coronavirus pandemic, Guns N' Roses wanted the show to go on. They performed on March 14 night in Mexico City where they headlined the Vive Latino music festival. According to reports, the festival organizers faced harsh criticism for keeping the show going and while several performers dropped out, the iconic American hard rock band chose not to.
Amid a slightly truncated version of the band's standard set, Guns N' Roses performed the first rendition of 'So Fine' since the 'Use Your Illusion' tour in 1993. The track is from their 'Use Your Illusion II' studio album which released in 1991. Duff McKagan, the band's bassist and writer of 'So Fine', performed the track at the Mexico City show with lead guitarist Slash while frontman Axl Rose stepped offstage between 'You Could Be Mine' and 'Civil War', according to Rolling Stone. McKagan has often played 'So Fine' as a staple at his solo gigs.
Guns N' Roses will have performances over the next few weeks in South America and Central America. Their upcoming tour includes Ecuador, Peru, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Portugal but they have postponed some of the shows due to government mandates. A few gigs have been rescheduled for November and December including Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Colombia.
The band will then head out to Europe in May and June before returning to North America in July and August where they will play at headline stadiums with special guests Smashing Pumpkins. There is, of course, a likelihood that these plans may change if mass gatherings are still being banned during the year.
Guns N' Roses are one of the few major acts still performing amid the Covid-19 pandemic while this past week, groups such as Pearl Jam, Thom Yorke, Billie Eilish, the Who and Eagles opted to postpone their tours.
