Grimes changes name of Elon Musk’s daughter to a ‘punctuation mark’ but she says it can be a question too
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Billionaire Elon Musk's wife, Grimes, reveals she has changed the name of her daughter to a question. The 35-year-old singer, whose real name is Claire, shared on Twitter that her youngest child is now being called either 'Y', 'Why', or '?'.
Musk and Grimes, who began publicly dating in 2018, split after their daughter's birth. The pair also share a son who also shares a controversial name, X Æ A-12, later tweaked to X Æ A-Xii because California law forbids the use of numbers in a legal name. However, Grimes posted a side-by-side of her and her daughter, previously named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, twinning in red. The musician wrote on the tweet "Y C" with a dragon emoji in the middle, which prompted fans to inquire about the one-year-old's name.

'Y, Why, or ?'
The Canadian native opened up about her daughter's original name in an interview with Vanity Fair in April last year saying, Exa refers to the computing term exaFLOPS. Dark means "the unknown. People fear it, but truly, it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe." Grimes added that "Sideræl means the true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time." Although the one-year-old's name sparked more controversy after the mother highlighted it could be either Y, Why, or ?, before claiming the government won't accept it.
'That’s like naming your kid Apostrophe von period!'
One fan replied to her recent tweet and said, "omg baby sailor mars hiiii," to which the Genesis singer responded to the fan sharing her daughter's updated moniker. "She's Y now, or "Why?" or just "?" (But the government won't recognize that)." she further explained the name represents, "curiosity, the eternal question, .. and such." Internet users were once left stunned by the former pair's innovative name for their children. Even though the pair received mostly criticism for the new name, few also claimed they have the right do whatever they want. One user wrote, "Poor kids :/" Another said, "Y is a cute name the single letter is such cool." A third chimed, "love how you just named her an existensial thinker." A fourth claimed, "Good lord. Just give the kid a name she can spell and pronounce." A fifth added, "You are free to do what you want!" Another said, "Is there a dent in your and elons head That’s like naming your kid Apostrophe von period." "as in 'why did you give me such a stupid name,'" read a comment. Another user mocked, '"Y' the hell would you do that?"
