Why did Elon Musk change his Twitter name to Mr Tweet? Internet reveals the REAL reason
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Elon Musk, who owns two of the most profitable businesses in the world - Tesla and SpaceX - and is behind a host of other ventures such as Neuralink, The Boring Company, and one of his most recent purchases, Twitter, has never failed to keep his fans entertained. In a recent tweet, the Twitter CEO had the internet burst out into laughter by announcing he has changed his name on his Twitter handle to 'Mr Tweet.'
Taking to the microblogging platform he now owns, the world's second richest man, Elon Musk wrote on January 26, "Changed my name to Mr Tweet, now Twitter won’t let me change it back," and added to it a laughing emoji. The post has already received over 30 million views, 542K likes, and over 35K retweets, with the numbers increasing rapidly. While many did not see any underlying reason behind Musk's tweet, especially considering he regularly makes statements bordering on the bizarre, some netizens pointed out why the Twitter CEO might have changed his name to 'Mr Tweet'.

Why did Elon Musk change his name to 'Mr Tweet'?
While most netizens filled the comments section with witty one-liners and a host of laughing emojis and gifs, many were left contemplating the reason behind Musk's decision. Eventually, Financial Times correspondent Patrick McGee offered an explanation. He averred that the tweet was an inside joke directed at the lawyer for the investors who are suing Musk.
The Twitter CEO is currently facing a lawsuit from a group of Tesla investors who claim he defrauded them by tweeting that he had "funding secured" to take Tesla private at $420 per share, on August 7, 2018. Commenting on Musk's tweet about his change of name, McGee wrote, "For anyone not in on the joke, the lawyer for the investors suing Elon accidentally called him “Mr Tweet” while grilling him this week." Elaborating further, McGee added, "I’m sorry there’s no recording of this — it was prohibited — but basically Musk replied “Mr. Tweet?” The whole courtroom laughed. And then Musk said: “actually pretty accurate”. Going by memory here, not for the history books."
