LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The fourth episode of Paramount+'s 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies' was released just a few hours ago and highlights how the act of blaming others has been prevalent since ancient times (here the 1950s). The musical-romantic show is a prequel to the cult classic 'Grease', which starred John Travolta and the late actress Olivia Newton-John in 1978.

Annabel Oakes, the creator of 'Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies', stated ahead of the series premiere that they will not steer away from tackling unsettling themes or calling out humankind's inappropriate behavior. The latest episode goes on to show how faulting someone weak or here an outcast gives a sense of authority and power to those who have the power and authority to change the situation and fix it.

‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ Episode 1 review: Even misfits can fit in...with the right people

Blame-shifting is simple, problem fixing is difficult

In Episode 4 of the series, the Pink Ladies are accused of trying to harm Buddy after he slipped and fractured his arm. However, everyone simply turns their backs on them without questioning the rumor or considering whether they are actually capable of such actions. This highlights how shifting blame is often seen as an easy way out, as people don't want to be called out or take responsibility. Unfortunately, this also means that addressing the issue becomes a challenge, as nobody wants to make the effort to set things right.

People should acknowledge that when incidents occur, no one can be held responsible. Instead, slip-ups, poor decisions, and unforeseen outcomes should be viewed as opportunities to gain knowledge and discover something new. In the episode, Buddy breaks his arm and is unable to play the game, so he signs up for a school play and ends up playing Romeo. Instead of blaming others, we should rise up, embrace change, and start anew.

Look for solutions rather than faults

People are now conscious that if someone is trying to blame them for something they weren't responsible for, they should act smartly rather than sulking and trying to find faults in themselves or the other person. They should seek ways to fix the problem as soon as possible. In the episode where Olivia's article forces McGee to enforce a strict dress code for the students, the school once again turns against the Pink Ladies. Something that should be mentioned here is that no one genuinely wants to do anything about the uniform, but they believe that blaming the Pink Ladies will solve their problem and satisfy their ego, which should never be the case.

The relationship between Olivia and Mr Daniels is one of the most peculiar connections we see in the episode. It is noticeable that Olivia still has feelings for him, but he introduces her to his fiance, and the rage inside Olivia causes her to rebel once again against authority, forcing them to revert to the old dress code.

Although the foundation of her anger is questionable, it serves the purpose of the episode titled 'If You Can't Be an Athlete, Be an Athletic Supporter', which was to stop the blame game and take matters into their own hands to achieve their desired outcome. Finally, everyone praises the Pink Ladies, making them believe that if everyone works together, they can defeat society's taboos. But can everyone be on the same page? Well, only time will tell.
