The winner is Sacha Baron Cohen

The award for Best Performance by An Actor In A Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy was awarded to Sacha Baron Cohen for his memorable performance in 'Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm'.

The other nominations for the category included Dev Patel for 'The Personal History of David Copperfield', Lin-Manuel Miranda for 'Hamilton', James Corden for 'The Prom',and Andy Samberg for 'Palm Springs'.

In the end it was Baron Cohen's unparalleled portrayal of 'Borat' that earned the prestigious honor.  This is the fifth nomination for second Golden Globe win for Sacha Baron Cohen as an actor, though his film 'Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm' also won the 'Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy'. Interestingly, in 2007, Baron Cohen took home his first Golden Globe for the role of Borat in the first movie of the franchise.

He accepted the award in a satirical speech from his home, while seated with wife Isla Fischer, who looked gorgeous in a hot pink gown.

Baron Cohen took a jibe at Donald Trump and the Hollywood Foreign Press while accepting the award. While speaking about Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 Presidential elections, he joked how the former POTUS indicated that a lot of dead people vote, adding that the same was a very rude thing to say about HFPA — which was at the peak of controversy for exclusion of the Black community.

In the end, Sacha Baron Cohen thanked his bodyguard for saving him from getting shot twice. "To the field team who literally risked their lives. And most thanks of all to my bodyguard, who stopped me [from] getting shot twice. You know who you are, and you know I'm not allowed to say your name, but thank you," he said.

His acceptance speech ended by sharing a sweet kiss with his wife.

Twitter thanks the actor for 'helping to save America'

Twitterati did not delay in flooding the British actor with congratulatory messages and hailing his bold satirical speech at the award show.

"I’m so glad that @SachaBaronCohen uses his powers for good," remarked a user. Another tweeted - "@SachaBaronCohen Congratulations on your #GoldenGlobes Wins for #Borat Thanks for having the funniest speeches of the night and for helping to save America." One user said, "Thank you @SachaBaronCohen! Never has comedy been so serious."  One fan recommended 'Borat for president!!' after Baron Cohen's win.
