Gladys Knight celebrated at 45th Kennedy Center Honors, fans call her 'a national treasure'

'I have been blessed with so much in my life and this certainly stands with those achievements at the top of that list,' Knight said after being honored

WASHINGTON, DC: Gladys Knight was one of the honorees celebrated at the Kennedy Center on Sunday, December 4, 2022, and was praised by President Joe Biden who was in attendance. Knight was joined by several A-listers, including Geroge Clooney, U2, and Amy Grant. Several actors like Matt Damon and Julia Roberts were in attendance too. Biden was accompanied by Vice President Kamala Harris and their respective spouses. 

The 45th Kennedy Center Honors provide recognition to living individuals who throughout their lifetimes have made significant contributions to American culture. One such talent this year was singer Gladys Knight, 78. Biden congratulated the talente and praised each of them personally. Speaking of Knight, he said, "To see each other, to see ourselves in one another, to unite in common cause - tonight we celebrate a truly exceptional...group of artists." He continued, "We’re going to get on that midnight train. Because I speak for all Americans when I say we we’d rather live in your world than be without you in ours." Knight is known for blockbuster hits like 'Midnight Train to Georgia', 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine', and more.

Kennedy Center Honors 2019: Singer Linda Ronstadt honored with an emotional tribute as fans say her songs took them back to childhood

In the at of receiving the honor, Knight said, "I’m humbled beyond words to be included amongst this prestigious group of individuals, both past and present." She continued, "I have been blessed with so much in my life and this certainly stands with those achievements at the top of that list. To be honored as a Kennedy Center Honoree is among the highlights of my career." Knight quipped, "It is dedicated to all those who paved the path for me to be able to accomplish the wonderful blessings I’ve been able to receive. The Kennedy Center’s commitment to the arts is unparalleled and I am so very grateful for this moment." On being praised by Biden, Knight said, "I love him. I feel like he’s my brother." Her fans stormed to show their affection.

Great legend" Another person complimented Biden on an articulate speech honoring Knight and tweeted, "President Biden’s speech about Gladys Knight was top tier" One more ardent fan who was only concerned about Knight wrote, "I don’t give a damn about the rest, but that’s Miss Gladys Knight. She is legendary!"
