LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 21 is receiving outrage from social media users. After some of the energetic and emotional performances on the ABC network show, Mikey Burson showed off his deep soulful voice. His acoustic voice received heaps of praise from the judges.

Mikey performed a song by Foreigner while his mother played the piano. The mother-son duo do gigs together playing classic rock and other genres. Mikey's singing skills pushed judges, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, to give him a round of applause. Despite getting a standing ovation from the trio judges, Mikey and his mother didn't get a golden ticket to Hollywood. However, viewers brutally slammed the judges for their decision.

Mikey performs 'Cold as Ice' by Foreigner in front of 'American Idol' 2023 judges. While Mikey sings his heart out, his mother, Elizabeth, supported him by playing the piano. The mother-son duo received praise from Luke, Lionel, and Katy. Luke said, "It's got the vibe of lounge music." However, Lionel was the only one who gave a 'yes' to Mikey. Katy praised Mikey saying, "I don't know who you are as an artist yet I know that you can sing. I don't ever want to go to karaoke with you because you will kill it." She further added, "But a karaoke star does not make 'American Idol' star." Katy gave Mikey a 'no' saying that Mikey is in the discovery phase of his career. Mikey is not going to Hollywood with his mother.

'American Idol' season 21 judges, Katy, Luke, and Lionel received major backlash from fans after they said 'no' to Mikey. A social media user tweeted, "Can’t believe Mikey didn’t go through. Did Luke and Katy go deaf???" Another user wrote, "Mikey was a good singer… Like Jesus Christ give the guy a chance 🤦🏽‍♂️" Another user said, "Wtf he didn't make it?? Is tonight bizzarro night??" Another social media user quipped, "Mikey probably would've gotten a yes if the Mom wasn't there." Another social media user penned, "They said no to this Mikey dude but they let the mother of 3 go through? Wtf ?" Another user brutally asked, "@katyperry I saw an episode of @AmericanIdol where you told @MikeyBurson karaoke has no part in American Idol. I beg to differ and you owe him an apology."

'American Idol' Season 21 airs every Sunday at 8 pm ET on ABC.
