Gerard Pique is 'suffering' after breakup with Shakira, says Barcelona president
Spanish football player Gerard Pique is reportedly "suffering" after his split from Colombian superstar Shakira. The 35-year-old defender and the 45-year-old musician announced that they were separating after spending 11 years and having two sons, 9-year-old Milan and 7-year-old Sasha, together.
The separation came after reports of Pique cheating on the 'Hips Don't Lie' hitmaker started doing the rounds. During a general assembly on Thursday, June 16, Joan Laporta, President of FC Barcelona, said, "Pique is suffering. As much as we imagine, we have in our imagination players with fame, money, and everything we like, but they are people and Pique is a great person. He is one of the captains, he is lucky, and he has given a lot and he has to give us a lot."

"And he has gone through a circumstance that is not pleasant at all, with children at a very young age and Pique deserves the esteem and affection of the fans. Do not pay attention to the news that tries to leave him as a frivolous man, without feelings, and that everything slips away from him. I am lucky to know him and to have treated him as a person. He is an extraordinary person who is suffering. And we have to help him. I will be the first to give him the love he deserves," he concluded.
Shakira and Pique's joint separation statement to E! News said, "We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding." Spanish newspaper 20 Minutos reported that Pique is "angry" about the infidelity rumors as they are tarnishing his image. "Piqué will defend himself in court because he considers that some of the information tarnishes his honor and seriously damages his image," as per the portal.

Fans also noticed the lyrics of Shakira's latest hit song, 'Te Felicito' with Rauw Alejandro. The translated lyrics say, "For completing you, I broke into pieces; they warned me, but I did not pay attention. I realized that yours is false; it was the drop that overflowed the glass; do not tell me you're sorry, that seems sincere, but I know you well and I know you lie. I congratulate you, how well you act, of that I have no doubt; with your role continues, you look good that show."
While there has been no confirmed update on the cheating rumors, fans think the lyrics of Shakira's new song are hinting at Pique's disloyalty. Other reports claim that Pique's alleged new girlfriend is "a friend of Riqui Puig's girlfriend [Gemma Iglesias], who we assume was the one who introduced them." Shakira and Pique met on the set of the music video 'Waka Waka' which was the official theme song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
