Grammys 2020: Gary Clark Jr wins award for Best Rock Song, his second accolade for the night

The award for Best Rock Song goes to Gary Clark Jr. for 'This Land', marking his second Grammy of the night at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards. Gary Clark Jr. was also the songwriter on 'This Land'. Clark has also won for Best Rock Song and he received a Best Contemporary Blues Album Grammy earlier in the afternoon.
The Grammy Award for Best Rock Song is a rare honor presented at the Grammy Awards. The award, exclusively reserved for songwriters, was first given to English musician 'Sting' in 1992. The award honors new songs, containing both melody and lyrics, or songs first achieving prominence during the period of eligibility.
Songs containing prominent samples or interpolations are not eligible. Bruce Springsteen holds the records for the most wins and nominations, having won four awards from nine nominations.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Gary Clark Jr. spoke on religion, his new album 'This Land' and his Texas beginnings, saying “I was raised real religious – Baptist, go to church every Sunday. The fear of God was very present in the house,” Clark Jr. said.
The nominations for the 2020 Grammys in the same category included:
'Fear Inoculum' - Danny Carey, Justin Chancellor, Adam Jones & Maynard James Keenan, songwriters (Tool)
'Give Yourself A Try' - George Daniel, Adam Hann, Matthew Healy & Ross MacDonald, songwriters (The 1975)
'Harmony Hall' - Ezra Koenig, songwriter (Vampire Weekend)
'History Repeats' - Brittany Howard, songwriter (Brittany Howard)
