(G)I-DLE's Yuqi slams fans for sexualizing her: 'We wear pretty clothes for ourselves'

A Chinese (G)I-DLE fan worries about Yuqi as other fans with 'perverted desires' may target her for her revealing outfit

A lot of fans seem to forget that K-pop idols are not that old having entered the industry as young as 13. Many were shocked when ITZY’s Yuna was made to wear revealing clothes when she was 17. Other fans recently slammed a writer for creating R-rated fanfic of 16-year-old Ni-ki of Enhypen. Older-aged idols like Mamamoo’s Hwasa and Wonho are also often objectified for their bodies by non-fans which fans do not appreciate. And so many commended 22-year-old Yuqi of (G)I-DLE for calling out those who sexualise idols. 

For their first studio album ‘I Never Die’, (G)I-DLE showed off a mature side to them with raw lyrics and revealing outfits as a diss to their haters. However, the stylists were still respectful of the younger members like Yuqi and Shuhua and gave them outfits they were comfortable in. Some fans still had a problem with Yuqi’s latest denim outfit for a photoshoot where she is wearing a mini skirt and a low-cut zipper crop top. While she was wearing shorts underneath and had her top zipped up, a Chinese fan on Weibo claimed that her outfit was too revealing and to be careful as there were many fans who would have "perverted desires."

Yuqi comments on those who sexualise idols

In response, Yuqi explained to the fan that it was such a mindset that was allowing trolls to sexualise people on the internet. The (G)I-DLE star said, “Nope! This is a prejudiced view~ a girl wearing a short skirt doesn't necessarily mean she's over-exposing herself, revealing a little cleavage doesn't mean over-exposing/flashing herself or if she's revealing a little skin doesn't mean you have to think that way.” She added, “I only think I look good, I'm satisfied that’s all. You don't have to take to heart what others see you as, we just wear pretty clothes, put on pretty makeup just for ourselves to be pretty and confident~ just be yourself be happy with yourself.”

‘She’s a legend’

This has led to Yuqi trending on Weibo as fans were moved by her words. One fan was proud, “Yuqi trending in weibo not just for her talent and stage presence but also for being a good influence to fans and a heartwarming person. This is the true  definition of Queen behavior. She’s always been giving a positive energy to everyone and alway sincere towards to her fans.” Another fan shared, “#YUQI is currently trending #9 on weibo entertainment search due to her reply to a fan yst telling them do not care about what other people think/say (abt u).” One added, “Yuqi trending 3th on weibo ent not just for her stage and her beauty... but her positive energy too trending 💜💜 ILY = I Love Yuqi.” Another posted, “She's a queen, She's a legend.” One fan was proud, “I STAN THE RIGHT GROUP.”
