Over the course of three seasons, 'Future Man' has explored the concept of apocalyptic doom across several timelines, several times. However, at the end of the third season, the universe has actually come to an end.

The past and present will collide and everything will fall into 'The Big Suck'. In the third season, our trio, Tiger (Eliza Coupe), Wolf (Derek Wilson) and Josh (Josh Hutcherson) have encountered a whole lot of things and people — including Gandhi, Jesus and even sleeping with Marilyn Monroe. At the beginning of the last episode, they're in 'existential netherworld', as Wolf puts it.

Josh has had enough and just wants to return to his own timeline. And so, they summon the cubes of friendship to meet Seth Rogen's character Susan, who explains 'The Big Suck' to them. It turns out that it's just thanks to a kid, who downloaded a corrupted file.  The kid tries to fix it, but Josh gives him solid advice, and tells him not to try fixing it, but handle the consequences differently. It's a full circle for Josh's character arc, who after messing with history over the course of the show, has finally gotten the hang of how to rectify mistakes.

And so, they save the world with a little thanks to Josh, but the fact is that they've all come a long way in terms of character development. Their friendship and familial bonds have strengthened.

Initially, Josh is about to leave his friends, till he sees visions of his past with his newfound family. As he tells Tiger and Wolf later, he isn't good at goodbyes and doesn't intend to say goodbye. They've all fulfilled their destinies especially Josh, who is now the hero he was meant to be from the first season.

Wolf has redeemed himself and is more selfless than he was before. Josh is more independent than before and decides to move out of his parents' house. It's a new millenium, and a new lifetime for Tiger and Wolf. And Tiger finally learns how to pronounce Josh's name, Futturmen. Both Tiger and Wolf express pride in Josh, at the person he is now.

The episode ends on a philosophical note. Wolf has started a school for 'Wayward Nerds' as a philanthropic endeavor. And as a potshot at Batman, he has a Bat-signal in the sky. Tiger notes that 'we can always create newer and better versions of ourselves' and is living on a farm with a robot who almost tried to kill her.

For Josh, it's all about moving out of the comfort zone and letting things go that they thought they could never live without. He says this while watching his past self.

'Future Man' is streaming on Hulu.
