LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 will stream on June 16, 2024, on HBO. The fantasy epic-adventure is known for its large-scale production, thrilling storytelling, and fascinating character arcs. But it does push the boundaries sometimes when it comes to graphic and gross visuals as a part of its narrative.
'House of the Dragon' is a prequel to 'Game of Thrones' and fans who are well-versed in the George RR Martin universe have come to expect some unusual, over-the-top, and visually disturbing moments from the franchise. These moments add to the world of the series and make the seven kingdoms an unforgiving and remorseless place to live in.
'House of the Dragon' too doesn't shy away from diving into the deep dark alleys of human existence and creates some moments that make the audiences look away from their screens for a bit. Here is a list of the most gross scenes in 'House of the Dragon' Season 1.
'House of the Dragon' Season 1 Episode 3: Crabfeeder
Prince Craghas 'The Crabfeeder' Drahar (Daniel Scott-Smith) is a character who appointed himself as prince-admiral of the Triarchy and declared war on Westeros.
What made this character even more repulsive was the fact that he used to leave his enemies on the beach and feed them to crabs. The character becomes important as he gives a reason for audiences to see Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) in a positive light after Daemon kills the Crabfeeder.
'House of the Dragon' Season 1 Episode 2: Viserys and Laena's discussion
King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) has lost his first wife and is now about to marry again. The union suggested by his council is with a much younger Laena Velaryon (Nova Foueillis-Mosé) who is still a child. The union would strengthen the relationship between the Velaryon and Targaryen house.
The episode brings an uncomfortable sequence between the two as they go for a walk. Viserys eventually doesn't marry Laena because he still feels guilty about his wife's death in childbirth and blames it on a young marriage.
He goes on to marry Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), who is still much younger than Viserys but older than Laena.
'House of the Dragon' Season 1 Episode 6: Laena's childbirth
Episode 6 brings a time jump and a contrast in childbirth. Stillborn babies and difficult childbirth are a constant in Season 1 as we see multiple women facing difficulties during the process.
In Episode 6, we see Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D' Arcy) have a happy experience, and almost parallel to Rhaenyra, we see Laena facing a difficult childbirth that was shown graphically in a disturbing scene.
Laena decides to die on her terms and asks her dragon Vhagar to kill her who unwillingly obliges.
'House of the Dragon' Season 1 Episode 8: Viserys' illness
Viserys progressively suffers from an illness that makes him rot gradually and increases his desperation to find a successor to the throne. A heartbreaking and disturbing scene in Episode 8 sees Viserys appear as the King despite his illness.
Viserys is evidently in a lot of pain and still has to fulfill his duties albeit uncomfortably. The whole sequence is disturbing but it is extremely well executed and as an audience, you feel Viserys' pain.
'House of the Dragon' Season 1 Episode 10: Vhagar kills Arrax and Luke
Probably the most uncomfortable scene to watch in the entire season came in the final episode when Vhagar, who is one of the biggest dragons in the whole seven kingdoms, gets angry and violently kills Arrax and Lucerys Velaryon aka Luke (Elliot Grihault).
The scene will have repercussions for Season 2 as well as with Vhagar being mounted by Prince Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and Luke's mother Rhaenyra being out for revenge against Aemond and his mother Alicent Hightower.
