LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 will stream on HBO on June 16, 2024. As we head closer to the release date of the most-anticipated second season of the pulsating prequel to 'Game of Thrones', speculations and predictions are in the air about the fate of 'House of the Dragon' characters in the second season.

The only thing predictable about 'House of the Dragon' universe is its unpredictability and the fact that characters can die when you least expect them to. Season 2, is all about the war between faction Green and faction Black of the Targaryen house and war certainly increases the odds of characters dying left right, and center.

One of the protagonists of 'House of the Dragon' is Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D' Arcy), who stakes her claim to the throne in Season 2. But with politics and war being a consistent theme in the show, you don't know if the proclaimed Queen will be able to make it through to the season alive.

'House of the Dragon' is based on George R R Martin's book 'Fire & Blood', which is a collection of short stories about the Targaryen House and events that took place before 'Game of Thrones'. If the timeline of the book is to be followed, it is unlikely that Rhaenyra will die in Season 2 and the dreaded event will probably happen during a later season.

Season 1 ends at a time when the house is on the verge of a civil war, and from Season 2 onwards, we enter into the Dance of the Dragons phase of George R R Martin's world. Dance of the Dragons is a two-year-long war that took place to determine the successor to the throne.

The war is expected to be divided into multiple seasons with a few key battles taking place in Season 2, while others happening in later seasons. As per a report from Deadline, the series is expected to run for four seasons.

Rhaenyra's death happens in the final stages of the Dance of the Dragons as per the book and Season 2 will probably cover the events of the book till the fall of King's Landing.

Rhaenyra takes over King's Landing and her rule is accepted well by the common folk but with the imposition of taxes and her strict punishment of those who would not obey her, there is discontentment among the people about her rule.

A few controversial decisions, turn houses against her and the final nail in the coffin is the death of Helaena Targaryen, which causes a riot in the city and forces Rhaenyra to flee King's Landing.

She ultimately gets betrayed by Ser Alfred Broome and her death comes at the hands of Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) who feeds her to the dragon Sunfyre.

The event is expected to take place at the end of Season 3 or in Season 4.
