Despite the cancellation spree that Fox has embarked on, DCTV fans can finally rejoice as another of its cult favorites, Gotham, has been renewed for season 5.

In what can be deemed as a last-minute reprieve for the show, the network on the heels of its Upfront Presentation to advertisers, ordered for another season of Gotham, making it the fifth and final one for the series.

The news not only comes as a relief to loyal followers of the Warner Bros TV drama but also to the producers who can finally wrap up the show with a proper ending.

Besides the renewal of the Batman prequel series, though, reports also teased what fans could expect from the upcoming season featuring 13 episodes altogether - a tad bit shorter than the past seasons.

As it turns out, in the final run, the focus would obviously be on a young Bruce Wayne. But as an apt conclusion to the origin story, the showrunners are believed to be centering the episodes on the transformations - how Wayne takes on the mantle of Batman, a caped crusader.

According to reports, "the fifth and final season will wrap up this unique origin story of the great DC Comics Super-villains and vigilantes, which revealed an entirely new chapter that has never been told.”

In fact, executive producer Danny Cannon has been presenting the fifth season as a "reboot" of the Batman series. Picking up after the events of season 4, Gotham is headed for a massive overhaul.

In the meantime, fans need to prepare for a "catastrophic event" during the season 4 finale titled "No Man's Land".

Based on DC Comics characters, Gotham stars David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Ben McKenzie in the role of Jim Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, and Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox amongst others. While Bruno Heller and John Stephens serve as executive producers for the show alongside Cannon.

The season 4 finale of Gotham airs this Thursday, May 17, on FOX.
