There is no doubt that German director, Werner Herzog is perhaps one of the best filmmakers there ever was. The late Roger Ebert once said that Herzog "has never created a single film that is compromised, shameful, made for pragmatic reasons, or uninteresting. Even his failures are spectacular." But Herzog is not just known for his feature films which often feature the concept of ambition and dreams. His documentaries are just as important.

In 2007, Herzog's 'Encounters at the End of the World' was released in which he studied people and places in Antarctica. It was the first time that Herzog worked with British volcanologist, Clive Oppenheimer, who had briefly appeared in the film. In 2016, Herzog and Oppenheimer worked together on 'Into the Inferno', in which they explored active volcanoes from around the world and the people who live near them.

In their third collaboration, 'Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds', Herzog and Oppenheimer team up once again, this time, to study meteors in a way you have never seen before. The documentary is coming to Apple TV+ in November. Read on to know more details about the documentary.

Release date

'Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds' will be released on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 13.

Plot

'Fireball: Visitors from Darker Worlds' explores the fascinating and entangled nature and culture of meteorites, shooting stars, deep impacts, and craters. Meteorites are the oldest relics we have ever touched and along with the fireballs that propelled them to our planet, they have sparked human imagination and awe throughout history and prehistory.

Herzog and Oppenheimer take us on an extraordinary journey across the continents to discover the meaning of these messages from the stars. We follow the filmmakers as they join the South Korean research team hunting for meteorites on the blue ice plateau of Antarctica, learn of the reverence held for fireballs and craters by Aboriginal peoples of Australia, and meet the Pope’s astronomer, who curates a historic meteorite collection at the Vatican Observatory. Throughout the journey, Herzog and Oppenheimer meditate on heaven and the heavens, life’s origins and evolution, and our destiny.
