Is 'Filthy Rich' a scandalous White version of 'Green Leaf'? Fans say 'acting is bad but wanna see what happens'
Spoilers for 'Filthy Rich'
'Greenleaf' is a drama series created by Craig Wright that first premiered in 2016. It's fifth and final season premiered on June 23, 2020. As the name suggests it follows the Greenleaf family and their association with the Memphis megachurch, which is popular with African-American churchgoers. Now, compare that to Fox 'Filthy Rich', which also centers around a family called the Monreaux filled with scandal and lies immersed in religion. Both shows have religion at their center, family drama that revs everything up, lies and adultery that always seem to circulate them, and much much more. Now, fans are wondering if 'Filthy Rich' is just a White 'Greenleaf'? We don't know if that's a 100% true, but there are quite a few similarities when it comes to the themes and plotline -- sometimes even the character arcs.
"Only watched the first 5 minutes so far of #FilthyRich, is this a white #GreenLeaf?," wrote one user. Another added, "#filthyrich feels like a lower budget & white #greenleaf." What we most agreed one was with this one fan who tweeted, "#FilthyRich is just a more scandalous white version of #Greenleaf."

We'd also agree that 'Filthy Rich' is a tad more scandalous, but the premise seems to be the same -- is this a lack of original ideas? Were the writers aware of this? Some have even added that the series is the "white version of Empire"! In our opinion, it also closely resembles 'The Righteous Gemstones'. Most popular though many people that watched the series said that it bore a close resemblance to Greenleaf.
Another fan took a much more analytical look writing, "I think so too . Major difference? #FilthyRich primarily writes INSIDE THE JOKE. #Greenleaf not only is a seriously written Black drama; it was our only black drama which was unique & in high demand. Greenleaf at times got INSIDE THE JOKE w/ #LynnWhitfield Lalique baby bird." Others debated, because 'Greenleaf' was popular, but were still somehow hoooked to 'Filthy Rich' -- one fan wrote, "#FilthyRich is no #Greenleaf I want to turn the channel but I can’t. The acting is so bad but I wanna see what happens." Yet another fan added, "@FilthyRichFOX im getting a @GreenleafOWNfeel, just in a different shade of color! Im not buying it! Too soon to duplicate!! "
#FilthyRich is giving me white people #Greenleaf vibes...🤣

Some fans on the other hand enjoyed both the shows and their resemblance, with one user writing, "First five seasons of #Greenleaf now #FilthyRich. Thank you God for good TV during these crazy times." Unlike 'Greenleaf' though, 'Filthy Rich' has barely made much of a noise since it was canceled even before the network aired all of its first seasons -- there are two more episodes left of the season. 'Greenleaf' is a highly loved show and went on for five seasons. You can watch 'Greenleaf' on Netflix if you'd like to catch up with the series or see where fans are coming from when they speak of 'Filthy Rich' duplicating it.
Episode 9 airs on Monday, November 23, at 9 pm ET on FOX.
