LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: If there is one animated franchise that has enchanted millions across the globe, it is ‘Kung Fu Panda’. Since 2008, DreamWorks Animation has built a story around the adventures of Po Ping, voiced by Jack Black and Mick Wingert, who is a giant panda and is chosen as the prophesied Dragon Warrior and eventually becomes a master of Kung Fu.

The first three installments of the franchise have amassed millions of dollars and generated huge revenue for DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures. Given its humongous fan base and demand, it was only natural that the studio executives followed it up with a fourth installment, which is now set for a March 2024 release. DreamWorks Animation announced the fourth 'Kung Fu Panda' film in August 2022, but only recently, Mike Mitchell of ‘Shrek’ and ‘Sky High’ fame was brought on board to direct the movie.

Mike Mitchell is a certified choice

Mitchell has formerly worked as an animator on the 'Antz' and 'Shrek' franchises and is well-versed in the realm of animation. After his successful career in animation, he ventured into directing animated movies and delivered ‘Shrek Forever After’, ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked’ and ‘The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’. He has a proven track record of taking on big-budget animated movies and delivering them successfully.

Recently at Cinemacon in Las Vegas, Mitchell was officially announced as the director of the upcoming 'Kung Fu Panda' movie. This did not come as a surprise but rather an affirmation of his abilities as a director which has indeed left many fans happy. The movie will release on March 8, 2024, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Fans are thrilled

When the news broke that Mitchell would be directing 'Kung Fu Panda 4', fans were elated and overjoyed. They hailed it as a victory for cinema and through their witty comments, said that they will watch the film as Mitchell was directing it. Sharing a Kylian Mbappe meme, one fan wrote, “I’ll be there no matter what.”

Another wrote, “KFP is one of the few franchises that, despite already ending perfectly(imo), I don't mind more films. The villains are always just so entertaining.” One just posted a meme with the quote, "This is cinema."

The comments continued as many praised Mitchell. One fan commented, “This dude's credits are so hit and miss imo. But I really like his hits, so I have hope.” One of the fans also had a suggestion for the director. “I hope they give this the same animation style as The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. That would be beautiful to see.”

A fan expressed his excitement by having had a playful take on 'Kung Fu Panda' as they wrote, “Another Kung Fu Panda? They must be really panda-ring to their audience.”

The main idea that was floating around among the fans was that "cinema is back." That is how highly animation fans regard 'Kung Fu Panda' and the people associated with it.
