Super Bowl LIV winners are the 49ers? Fans of The Simpsons are convinced show predicted this year's champs
'The Simpsons' has been running for a long time, and through its many episodes, it is has become known for its many accidental predictions of future events. Most recently, fans were convinced that 'The Simpsons' predicted the coronavirus outbreak as far back as 1993. Now, however, another 90s 'The Simpsons' prediction might be about to come true - the winner of this Sunday's Super Bowl.
The 1999 episode 'Sunday, Cruddy Sunday' in Season 10 of the series predicted the victor of the San Francisco 49ers over the Kansas City Chiefs in tomorrow's Super Bowl LIV. The episode, which aired after the Super Bowl XXXIII, has many eagle-eyed fans convinced they know who tomorrow's Super Bowl victory will go to. In the episode, the characters end up in the victor's locker room after the Super Bowl has ended, and members of the winning team are wearing red uniforms - similar to the ones worn by the 49ers.
The seeming prediction was pointed out by a fan on Twitter, who posted images from the show, writing, "Simpsons predicted 49ers winning the SB lol wonder if it comes true unless it’s KC wearing red."
Both teams will, actually, be wearing red this Super Bowl - a first in Super Bowl history. The 49ers uniform is a white top with a red logo and numbering and gold pants, while the Chiefs wear red jerseys and white pants. The tops as worn by the assumed-49ers in the 'The Simpsons' episode are an inversion of their current colour scheme, with red tops and a white logo/numbering. The current odds are slightly in favour of the Kansas City Chiefs, but a Simpsons prediction of who might win is as good a meter of guessing as any.
Super Bowl LIV, featuring the San Francisco 49ers vs the Kansas City Chiefs, airs this Sunday at 6:30 PM EST.
