'Family Guy' Season 19 Episode 5: Why is Peter dreaming of living the Marlon Brando life from 'Godfather'?

This isn't the first time Peter has pretended or fabricated a mafia air about himself on the show, and this won't be the last time either

Remember when the Season 19 premiere of 'Family Guy' showed Peter Griffin acting like a mafia boss? Clearly, he's not done playing the role as a recent development in his life propels him back to the lifestyle of the Italian mafia. So much so that he ends up reinventing himself as quite the 'Godfather'.

Titled 'La Famiglia Guy', Season 19 Episode 5 sees Peter suiting up to embrace the boss life. "When Joe asks Peter to be the godfather to his daughter, Peter commits to his mistaken interpretation of the role so much that he becomes a real gangster," reveals the official synopsis. Peter embracing the role of the Godfather, from the classic movies, is so him.

He likes basking in the grandeur of his life and possessions — or the lack of it, thereof. But if Peter Griffin was rich and dangerous, this is exactly the kind of life he would be living. Or so believes his wild, soaring imaginations. This isn't the first time Peter has pretended or fabricated a mafia air about himself on the show either.

In Season 18, Peter went full mafia; in Season 17 he killed the Michelin man for the mob; and in Season 16, he even had an Italian mom. Clearly, the Season 19 premiere wasn't an isolated incident. But as Peter embraces the mafia life, immediately after an episode where he ended up harming a bunch of innocent squirrels, who is next in his harm's way?

It makes sense to worry about Joe's babygirl's safety, with Peter floundering around in all his Godfather glory. This is is one shot to living the life he always dreamed of so there's no reason why he wouldn't fire things up a little here. The episode is also oddly reminiscent of ABC sitcom 'Modern Family's Phil Dunphy, where the character played by Ty Burrell is asked to be the godfather of his father-in-law's new son, Joe.

The episode saw Phil use his young son Lue as destructive means to exact revenge on people who had upset his kids and himself. Think stray rat in a party, driving over a person's favorite lemon tree, and bursting a few balloons that were covering Phil's ad-hoarding. The end credits saw Phil sitting in his office, casting a sinister smile to his wife the way Brando did in the iconic film — thus embracing his inner Godfather after being coined the honour.

There's just something about sitcom dads and their Italian mafia fantasies and looks like Peter is going to reunite with his. 'Family Guy' Season 19 airs on Sundays at 8.30 pm on FOX.
