Euphoria Season 1 finale: Fans divided over fears that Zendaya's character may have overdosed
*Spoiler Alert for Euphoria season 1 episode 8*
Euphoria's season 1 finale had a nailbiting ending.
While the series did bestow some pretense of closure for characters like Kat and Cassie, the HBO show also left out some minor plotholes about what happens to characters Nate and Fez. But they undoubtedly kept the biggest shock for the end that has fans going crazy. Unlike previous episodes, the finale does not have a song name as its title. While the episode begins with Rue admitted in the hospital due to kidney infection, we also learn that the winter formal happens during the finale. The winter formal, unlike any normal dance, showcases heartbreaks and threats.
Meanwhile, as the episode continues we get to know that Rue and Jules decide to ditch the dance, get home pack their bags and run away from the town. Though Jules was able to followthrough with the idea, Rue, on the other hand, wasn't.
While Jules leaves the town, the ending of the season showcases Rue dressed in red and invisible to her mother and sister. But visible to her dead dad alone who she dances with. The season ended with Rue being carried out of her house by people dressed in red like her. We do not know if she is hallucinating on something, or if she really is dead as she climbs on top of a pile of dead bodies and takes a dive.
Ending with bright light, not knowing if she was just dreaming, or hallucinating or if she is really dead, the finale of Euphoria has fans torn apart. While some fans were all praises for the finale and the nailbiting ending it has, some stated that they need a new ending from HBO, as there cannot be another season without Rue and they didn't want it to end the way it did.
"I’m in awe at how beautiful that entire episode, the entire season was orchestrated. The acting makes it so surreal and gives it endless emotional depth, but the soundtrack, cinematography, production, it truly makes me wish I could be a part of something as good as this euphoria," wrote a fan on Twitter.
"@euphoriaHBO season finale was SO good that i’m going on strike from TV until someone gives me a show as equally as good," said a fan. While another added, "the end of euphoria ! is good !! i won't b taking questions at this time."
Adding to that a fan said, "The season finale of #Euphoria should be placed in a museum."
Though the season finale received a good set of responses from fans who loved it, there were most who didn't like the ending.
"Euphoria finale pissed me all the way off yall really over hyped this show," said a fan on Twitter. Adding to that another fan said, "So @euphoriaHBO has me feeling a different way about this god damn season finale..."
"I expected way more from this last episode of Euphoria. Still loved it but FUUUUUCK, I have to wait forever for another season," said a fan. While another added, "I got mad questions after that finale #EuphoriaHBO what’s up with my man Fezco? What’s going on with rue? That last scene was dope tho #EUPHORIA #AllOfUS."
"euphoria episode was literally a letdown like who tf told the screenwriters to end it like that it’s so champ and corny," wrote another fan.
Now that Euphoria season 1 has come to an end, fans and viewers are left waiting in anticipation for season 2 to premiere.
