'Eunwoo in Hollywood': Astro star cast in comedy movie 'K-POP: Lost in America'

Helmed by 'Interstellar' and 'Parasite' makers, the Hollywood comedy is about a K-pop group that gets lost in Texas days before their debut

After it was announced that ‘Interstellar’ and ‘Parasite’ makers were making a movie on K-pop in August 2021, we never heard anything on it anymore. Titled ‘K-pop: Lost in America’, the movie had turned heads as it was no simple biography or documentary, but set to be a fun comedy about a K-pop group who get lost just 2 days before their debut. With the producers having hit rom coms under their belt like ‘Sleepless in Seattle’, many hoped that their favorite idol actors would be cast. And some fans’ wishes have come true as on July 1, it was reported that Cha Eunwoo of Astro would be one of the leads.

We first got the news that Australian comic Rebel Wilson and Charles Melton of ‘Riverdale’ fame had joined the cast of ‘K-POP: Lost in America’. The exclusive report by Deadline also shared that filming would begin in the fall and the movie would be released in 2023. While Charles Melton is half Korean and might be playing one of the members of the fictitious K-pop group, fans had been promised that K-pop idol actors would also be in the Hollywood movie. Well, our prayers have been heard, as one of the biggest idol actors, Eunwoo has been roped in.

Eunwoo to lead ‘K-POP: Lost in America’

Hours after the first casting announcement, it was reported by a Korean outlet that Eunwoo was positively in talks to play a lead role in ‘K-POP: Lost in America’. While he is a member of the K-pop boy group Astro, he has also established himself as an actor with several hit K-dramas like ‘Rookie Historian’ and ‘True Beauty’. The idol actor was in LA for the last few days and while he did not reveal why he was there, fans now think that it was for his Hollywood debut. StarNews states that Eunwoo has now reportedly got the part and has cleared his schedule for the rest of the year to film for ‘K-POP: Lost in America’.

‘K-POP: Lost in America’ has roped in ‘Interstellar’s producer Lynda Obst and Miky Lee of ‘Parasite’ fame. The Korean production will be handled by conglomerate CJ ENM which has several K-pop and K-drama agencies under them. The film will be directed by JK Youn who was the first Korean filmmaker to have two mega-blockbusters with more than 10 million audiences each. ‘K-POP: Lost in America’ is a comedy that follows a rookie K-pop boy group that gets lost in Texas with no money and has to make it to New York in two days for their debut. They have to go through hijinks and crazy obstacles in order to make their dreams come true.

‘Eunwoo karma is real’

Astro fans are excited for Eunwoo as this will be his Hollywood debut and are making tweets like, “I knew it!!! Something BIG will happen and its happening now!!!🥳😭😍❤️  EUNWOO KARMA IS REAL!!! ACTOR CHA EUNWOO IN HOLLYWOOD.” With his latest roles being that of a quiet and cold person, fans took to reminding the Internet of his comic role, “More of y’all need to watch Rookie Historian before you speak about Eunwoo and acting, because everything you say ignores 1/3 of his leading roles. Yirim was a soft, sweet, ridiculous bean full of mischief and enthusias! HELLO!”

One fan was positive, “Eunwoo in HOLLYWOOD movie for real!! all the reasons why he's in LA 🥹 we all thought he's on vacay.... apparently, it's for business.” Another was impressed, “‘I want to be in a historical drama’- he got it ‘I want to wear a hs uniform in a drama’- he got it ‘I want our song to be #1 in music shows’- he got it ‘I want to star in hollywood’- he got it What eunwoo wants, eunwoo gets.” One fan added, “This is crazy! Eunwoo is going Hollywood! Eunwoo is going global! I am so proud of him!”
