Emmys 2019: ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ wins best reality competition second year in a row

VH1's hit reality show 'RuPaul's Drag Race' won the Emmy for best reality competition for the second year in a row. Host RuPaul urged the audience to register for voting during his acceptance speech.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ won the Outstanding Competition Program at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards. The show successfully completed eleven seasons and has already bagged quite a few awards during the time. Showrunner RuPaul has won three consecutive Emmys, between 2016 to 2018 for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.

In 2018, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ became the first show to win the primetime Emmy award for the outstanding reality-competition program and a primetime Emmy award for outstanding host for a reality or reality-competition program in the same year. The reality show host RuPaul, during his acceptance speech, thanked everybody for the award and urged everybody to register to vote.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ follows RuPaul’s hunt for “America’s next drag superstar”. RuPaul wears multiple hats on the show-host, mentor and the head judge. The contestants are given various challenges every week, and a panel of judges decide the winner.

Fans are very thrilled and happy with the show’s win. A fan tweeted, “#Emmys Congrats @RuPaul. You and your team are awesome.. You make me smile! I hope @RuPaulsDragRace goes on for many years! #LoveYouNinaWest”. Another fan wrote, “I love that we live in an Emmys world where Rupaul’s Drag Race is a shoo-in to win #Emmys”.
 
Fans were also very appreciative of RuPaul’s message to promote vote registration. A fan shared, “Shoutout to @RuPaul for the plugging #voterregistration during his #Emmys acceptance speech!”. “@RuPaul is doing what everyone should do when they win at the #Emmys: use their platform for good, for justice, for change. We all have a role to play in our democracy— and voting is a responsibility, civic duty + privilege”, tweeted another fan.
