The beer brand had been the subject of a divisive debate for several weeks after it sent Mulvaney a personalized can of its product.
In early April, Mulvaney posted a video on Instagram, revealing that Bud Light had sent her a can featuring her face to celebrate her first anniversary of living as a woman. Mulvaney's Days of Girlhood video series, which documents her first year of transitioning, has gone viral.

In April 2023, Dylan Mulvaney posted sponsored content on Instagram that featured Bud Light. She shared a picture of a beer can with her face on it, which later became the subject of controversy.
The collaboration between Mulvaney and Bud Light, which involved her face being printed on a special blue can, sparked outrage within the LGBTQ+ community. Many people called for a boycott of the brand and urged others to dispose of their beer stockpiles.
One of the notable critics was musician Kid Rock, who shared a video on social media of himself shooting an assault rifle at three cases of Bud Light.

In the video, Mulvaney addresses the Bud Light controversy and starts with her signature phrase of revealing the number of days since she began her transition. She states, "It’s day 9610 of being a human," and decides to leave gender out of the discussion to focus on the matter at hand.
Mulvaney expressed her disappointment with the dehumanizing and cruel nature of the Bud Light controversy. She stated that she has always tried to love everyone, even those who make it challenging. Mulvaney continued to say that she struggles to understand why people need to be cruel to one another.
However, she also declared that she didn't want to remain silent any longer. Mulvaney stated, "What I'm interested in is getting back to making people laugh and never stop learning." The video received an outpouring of support from over 50,000 commenters, with many expressing their love for the TikTok personality.
