LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dylan Mulvaney, the controversial TikToker from the transgender community, has been facing backlash on many political fronts, but what could be troublesome for her is the growing number of detractors within. On Reddit.com trans forums, the debate is hot whether Mulvaney is a genuine trans or just using the title to garner money. Several people from the community think she is probably not the best face to take their movement forward.

Born biologically male, some of the comments online include, “Mulvaney is simply 'not my cup of tea, ‘she's a 'bit cringe,' 'annoying,' 'privileged,' and even 'obnoxious.” 'Nobody I know can stomach her,' wrote one of the users on the 'ask transgender' thread, a forum having 264,000 participants. This means a sixth of the estimated 1.6 million trans-Americans are part of it. Some of her other online critics said, 'Dorky, campy theater kid.' This was in reference to Mulvaney's past as a performer. The other agitated user wrote that “her vibes are mad f****** obnoxious.” “I blocked her and find her content cringe,” said one user, comparing Mulvaney's skits to the television comedy Schitt's Creek which introduced inoffensive gay characters into millions of living rooms.

'Nice and genuine person'

Taking a jibe, the forum said, “Mulvaney's hit series, Days of Girlhood, was LGBT content for straight people.” But it is worth mentioning that has millions of adoring followers worldwide. One of the supporters referred to her as a “nice and genuine person, albeit one whose energetic, high-pitched clips drain viewers' energy.” Mulvaney’s conservative celebrity critics involving Kid Rock, Caitlyn Jenner, and singer Travis Tritt have openly criticized her, and many question her money-making methods.

'Not a real trans kid'

As per industry insiders, Mulvaney makes around $75,000 each time she promotes products, netting over $1 million each year. The 28-year-old recently went for a facial feminization surgery costing tens of thousands of dollars, just within a year into her gender transition journey. “She's had a lot of privileges transition-wise,' said one user. Another user agreed, adding, “She does, however, seem very privileged … and paints a picture of being trans which is very 'easy',' posted another.”

Chloe Cole, a prominent de-transitioner, called Mulvaney was not a “real trans kid,” while Laverne Cox, the trans woman star of Orange Is the New Black, told Mulvaney she was “insane” for baring so much of her life on camera recently.
