There was reportedly bad blood between Drakeo the Ruler and fellow rapper YG, and the former had also threatened to kill him just months before he was himself murdered. The 28-year-old was stabbed to death Saturday night, December 18, during a backstage brawl at the Once Upon a Time LA concert.

Earlier this year, Drakeo, whose real name is Darrell Caldwell, shared a video online in which he claimed while apparently referring to Keenon Dequan Ray Jackson – who is more popular as YG, “A rap n***** going to get swiss cheesed he say one more thing, and they know that. I don't want no friends.”

On the night of the attack, Drakeo and YG both were scheduled to perform in the concert along with stars, like Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Ice Cube. However, no suggestion has been made by the law enforcement authorities that YG was behind the stabbing. The California Highway Patrol, which is leading the probe, said “there's nothing credible” that hints that any of the rappers had anything to do with it.

Meanwhile, YG has not made any comments regarding the killing. But a number of artists and celebrities have paid tribute to Drakeo on social media. Snoop Dogg tweeted, “My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Drakeo the Ruler. Please take care, love one another and stay safe y'all.”

Otto Von Biz Markie shared, “RIP Drakeo, the greatest West Coast artist of a generation, a legend who invented a new rap language of slippery cadences, nervous rhythms, and psychedelic slang, who beat life twice only to suffer the most tragic fate conceivable. The Ruler, once, always, and forever.” DJ Akademiks noted: “RIP Drakeo The Ruler.”

Several of his fans also mourned his death as one of them wrote, “RIP to Drakeo The Ruler, I remember reading about how he beat the system multiple times even when they attempted to use his song lyrics against him. He constantly beat the odds. This is heartbreaking, no one deserves to be killed while doing what they love.” The second one said, “Rest In Peace to Drakeo the Ruler, another rapper gone too soon. Prayers to his family, friends and fans.”

A person tweeted, “‘If I could write a movie I would recreate The Exorcist. I'm heaven-sent, nigga think twice who you messing with. Giving niggas hell 'cause up top they say the beds was full, shit …’ RIP Drakeo The Ruler wordplay genius, bro was different for real been bumping since day1.” “How many times will this same type of crime happen in the rap/hip hop community before something is done? How did someone get in who was carrying a knife? That alone tells the story,” another one stated.

A tweet read, “OMG, so sad for Drakeo prayers to his family and friends and murdered a week before Christmas. God be with Drakeo.” The second tweet noted, “Crazy how you can still bring knives into a music venue. Especially following the Astroworld festival. Probably could’ve been prevented had more extreme and organized security measures been implemented.”
