Rapper YG apologizes to LGBTQ community on New Year's Day: 'I was anything but respectful and accepting'
YG is one of the hottest young rappers in the game at present. Barely 10 minutes after midnight on New Year's Day, he took to social media to post a heartfelt apology to the LGBTQ community, which garnered mixed reactions from his fans and doubters soon after his post.
Born Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson in March 1990, the American rapper is better known by his stage name YG, and comes straight outta Compton, California. However, it seems that this new year has given the young hip-hop star a fresh perspective in this rapidly morphing world, and he made his change of mind known to the public on his social media account.
"It’s been brought to my attention that my old views on life was ignorant," YG posted on Twitter. "I apologize to the LGBTQ kommunity for ever komin across like I was anything but respectful and accepting. Live. Love. Ya Life. Gang. (sic)" You can view the tweet here.
Most of his fans were incredibly supportive of his new show of maturity and congratulated him in the comments section. "Happy new year G! I used to use language and act a certain way as well that was unkind to that community. Growth is progress," said one of his fans.
However, other followers were more skeptical. Some saw it as damage control with his new flame, Kehlani, who identifies as a queer individual. "He only saying that to appease to kehlani," another follower stated.
YG and Kehlani had allegedly begun dating only a few months ago in September 2019. However, two months later, rumors started swirling in November that the rapper had been unfaithful to her. And just last month, Kehlani posted a tweet saying that she was single, but then hastily deleted it.
Neither Kehlani nor YG have publicly commented on their relationship. So the speculation if these two artistes are officially an item remains to this day. "Is YG HACKED?" questioned another user, unconvinced that it was YG who was even tweeting the apology. After all, celebrity Twitter accounts get hacked every other day.
YG didn't let the criticism get to him, however. He later posted an inspirational tweet that read "Stay solid, Never fold!". As the cream of the 2011 XXL Freshman class, YG is currently working on the follow-up album to '4Real 4Real', which dropped in May 2019. For now, he seems to be taking that '4 Real' stance to heart.
