Why did Drake withdraw name from 2022 Grammys? Trolls say he ‘ran from competition’
A day after Taylor Swift’s name as a writer was removed from Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Sour’ for 2022 Grammys, another news jolted the fans as Toronto rap icon Drake withdrew his name from the renowned award ceremony. According to the publication Variety, the multi-platinum rapper made the decision along with his management team.
Drake scored two nominations at the 2022 Grammys i.e. Best Rap Album for his sixth studio effort ‘Certified Lover Boy’ and Best Rap Performance for ‘Way 2 Sexy’- a song from the same album. Grammys honored the request made by Drake as they removed his name from the long list of nominations. The 35-year-old hip-hop heavyweight had also not submitted any material for the Record of the Year and Song of the Year categories. 2022 Grammys brought a few new changes for the ceremony to be held early next year. They expanded the nominations in the big four categories from eight to 10 last month.

Why did Drake withdraw his name from 2022 Grammys?
Drake, who has scored a total of 47 Grammy nods in his career, decided to pull out of the coveted award ceremony without spilling the reason. The four-time Grammy winner refrained from sharing any update on his social media platforms. Also, there has been no official comment from his management. MEAWW will keep you posted. Despite Drake not sharing the details on his big decision, many on the Internet speculated that it might be in the wake of the recent Astroworld tragedy. Drake had receiving heat from fans, he will also have to deal with legal ramifications, as a suit has been filed against him and Travis Scott, as well as Live Nation and NRG Stadium. The 35-year-old, along with Travis, is being sued and accused of 'inciting a riot & violence'.
The ‘In My Feeling’ hitmaker had earlier voiced his frustrations with the Grammys after they failed to give The Weeknd a single nomination for the 2021 award ceremony. Taking to his Instagram story back in the day, he wrote, “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exist now and the ones that come after.” The rapper continued, “It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just won’t change their ways. The other day I said [the Weeknd] was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way” concluding, “This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up overtime and pass on to the generations to come.”
‘Even he knew his music was mid'
Social media users brutally trolled Drake for pulling out of Grammys. “His album topped all charts. He prolly did this to give them a chance”, joked one user as another chimed in, “He knew his mid a** album was gonna get destroyed.” On similar lines, one user stated, “Damn he even knew his music was mid this year.”
One user tweeted, “We are slowly starting to realize that Grammys mean nothing…good.” Meanwhile, another shared, “Good move, I’m sure it’s also in solidarity with his fellow Canadian. I don’t think he cares about these awards anymore.” The next one posted, “Lmfaoooo bro ran from the competition.” One user said, “Wait till he has to go against Kendrick lol.” And, another concluded, “As he should after his part in Astroworld.”
