'American Idol' fans urge dog groomer Carly Mickeal to drop 'theatrics' and be more natural
'American Idol' Season 20's auditions is definitely attracting a lot of talent. 24-year-old Carly Mickael, who masquerades as a dog groomer but loves to sing to her furry clients, decided that it was time for the humans to enjoy her vocals as well, so she decided to try out on the singing competition show.
With her father playing the piano for her, Carly launched into crooning Elton John's 'Your Song'. While her performance was pretty good, Lionel Richie noticed that there was a lot happening with her vocals. While he appreciated how she effortlessly juggled between notes, he felt that it was too theatrical and advised her to tone it down and be more natural. The other judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were happy with her performance and handed her the coveted golden ticket.

Fans agreed with the judges and praised Carly's performance and urged her to let her voice tell the story instead of her body language, hand movements, and theatrics. A fan commented on the show's YouTube clip of her performance with, "Great voice she needs to stay with the music .. piano man saved her .. her tempo is going too slow.. then too fast .. she needs to forget all the hand movements .. its making her late. Other than her timing .. she is incredible .. she needs to let it flow together .. a great vocal flows. Especially with that lyric and that melody." Another fan wrote, "I think to much theatrics distracted me from what her voice. She has so many runs it was a bit distracted but I can tell if was a great performance. I agree with Lionel to much performance, she needs to be natural."
"Nice voice…but she could take lessons from Angelina Jordan on how to let your voice and not your hands tell the story. (And daddy needs to back out.)," added a fan. "She’s very presentational, lil dramatic, good clear tone and knows how to color it. This was a lot in one song but def see potential," expressed a fan. Many fans enjoyed her performance despite the thetarics. A fan shared, "Very vocally perfect. No karaoke here!" Another fan seconded with, "I want her album."
