'Doctor Who': Everything viewers can expect in Season 12, including the return of Daleks, Cybermen and Rose Tyler
With only a handful of days left for the premiere of Season 12 of 'Doctor Who', viewers would be excited to learn what they can expect from it.
Now that the excitement and anger over the role of the Doctor being taken over by a woman has died down, fans are excited to see the new stories that Chris Chibnall as showrunner will bring them.
And while we can expect "a lot of excitement" as the show's cast and crew suggest in a video released by BBC, we can also expect to delve deeper into the psyche of the 13th Doctor and who she really is.
Chris Chibnall teased in the video that the new season has got action, scares, humor, and warmth, as Jodie Whittaker (13th Doctor) says, "The season is about the individual characters going on their own journey and particularly for the Doctor, it's a series about self-discovery."
Chibnall has also suggested to Den of Geek that the season could see more historical episodes, although they will be done differently.
Though Chris Chibnall has said that there won't be Daleks this season, fans may still hold hope that the iconic villains could make an appearance.
We do know that there will be a Cybermen story — one that will spin a different take on another classic 'Doctor Who' villain. The trailer also shows that the Doctor and her companions will encounter the Judoon and Racnoss. The season may also visit the Timeless Child.
Whittaker also told Den of Geek, "Some of these episodes, I'd say, go in a direction that is different for the Doctor than the previous season, so that in itself shows a level or a side to her that we haven't seen yet."
Among other things, we can also expect a larger role for Yaz (Mandip Gill), and perhaps a shift of focus to environmental issues in Season 12. There are also hints of a mid-season regeneration and the potential return of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler (or perhaps as Bad Wolf).
'Doctor Who' returns for Season 12 on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at 8/7c on BBC America with the two-part special 'Spyfall'. After this, the show will return to its regularly scheduled Sunday slot for future episodes.
