DMX ‘Exodus’: Air date, how to live stream, concept, tracklist and all you need to know about rapper’s posthumous album
We lost hip-hop icon DMX on April 9, 2021, after he suffered a cardiac arrest on April 2. The ‘Ruff Ryders’ Anthem’ hitmaker who always enjoyed a massive fan following across the globe, will now have his legacy continued in the form of a posthumous album titled ‘Exodus’. Legendary record producer and a dear friend of DMX, Swizz Beatz shared the big news on his official Twitter account.
He posted the official cover art of the album with the caption, “5/28 EXODUS THE ALBUM IS COMING. LONG LIVE THE DOG. DMX.” The newly-announced album will be a follow-up to the rapper’s 2003 full-length project called ‘Grand Champ’. DMX, who died at the age of 50, was apparently working on the album for quite some time and the rumors of him finishing the album started doing the rounds on the Internet before he passed away. DMX is the only artist in history to enter both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop charts with number one debuts for his first five consecutive career albums.
The first posthumous album of DMX will hit the Internet on May 28 via Def Jam Recordings. He had signed a lucrative deal with the label back in 2019. Swizz Beatz has taken care of the project as a producer and has also executively produced the same.
The official cover art of the album was also shared on DMX’s Instagram account which is now managed by his family/team. The cover art features an extreme close-up monochromatic shot of the late rapper. The picture is clicked from below his mouth to his neck. We could also spot a tattoo on his neck which read “Exodus 1:7” which relates to the name of his upcoming album. The album title also shares its name with DMX’s son Exodus Simmons.
Swizz Beatz shed some light on the project with the help of an official statement. According to Variety, the renowned music producer said, “My brother X was one of the most pure and rare souls I’ve ever met. He lived his life dedicated to his family and music. Most of all, he was generous with his giving and loved his fans beyond measure.” He added, “This album, X couldn’t wait for his fans all around the world to hear and show just how much he valued each and every single person that has supported him unconditionally.”
Since the album has been announced most recently, fans might have to wait for a while before the official tracklist of the same gets unveiled. MEAWW will keep you posted. Interestingly, DMX’s 8-year-old Sonovah Hillman Jr is expected to feature in the album. Apart from her, the late rapper had earlier given a hint on his album features which included artists like Pop Smoke, Lil Wayne, Griselda and Bono.
DMX ‘Exodus’ is yet to get an official trailer. MEAWW will keep you updated on the same.
