'Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story' Episode 5 Preview: Is Dan going to propose to Linda?
In a promo for 'Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story' Episode 5 released by USA Network, when Betty (Amanda Peet) calls the Dan Broderick (Christian Slater) household, she is greeted by a message from Linda. Dan's new girlfriend has recorded a message on the answering machine for the house where Betty's children also live. Betty will obviously have a hard time dealing with this as is teased in the promo.
In the previous episode, a psychologist explained to the court -- and in turn the audience -- about the gaslighting that went into this marriage. And just how exactly it also seeped into their divorce eventually making it one of the most infamous of cases in the USA. According to the official synopsis of the upcoming episode: "Fighting her new reality, Betty goes on the offense, hurting everyone - but most of all, herself." As one scene shows an evidently harassed Betty making repeated calls to the Broderick household, other scenes show her damaging property and items, which are presumably in Dan's house.
If Betty is on a destroying spree like the previous episodes, she is more likely to harm her own case than anything else. And that is also what the synopsis of the episode suggests. It also looks like Dan's meticulously planned divorce proceedings are working just as he had wanted them to work. In the promo video, Betty is also shown handcuffed in what looks like a waiting cell in jail. Could Dan have sent his ex-wife to jail? It won't be the first time he would be doing this.
In another scene in the promo, Dan is shown posing in a busy room with Linda by his side and a jewelry box in his other hand. It is possible that the upcoming episode will show him pop the question. In real life, Dan and Betty's divorce became a public spectacle given the controversial nature of the separation. And it is from episode 5 onwards that we are likely to see Amanda Peet's Betty begin her downfall as well. It seems like everything we saw up until this point was just the beginning.
