It's all birthday celebration here at MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) today as we honor one of our favorite pop stars, Selena Gomez. The beloved singer turns 28 today and we want to celebrate with our five favorite Selena Gomez songs on today's Destination Jam playlist.

'Past Life' with Trevor Daniel

If you haven't heard this stunning collaborative remix track by Selena Gomez and Trevor Daniel, it is high time to get acquainted. The official music video for the remix released last week and the original single by Trevor Daniel released in March. In the video, we see the collaborators' faces zoomed in and becoming a series of jaw-dropping landscapes in nature.

The music features acoustic guitar, synth strings, a steady beat and gorgeous harmonies in the vocals. In a previous half-minute Q&A session between Gomez and Daniels, she gushed over his original 'Past Life' and said the song told "a story about all the things that we tend to hold on to and the patterns that we have."

'Wolves' with Marshmello

A singer with a voice that could be appealing on most musical platforms, Selena's collaborative efforts have proven to be catchy time and time again. On 'Wolves' featuring EDM producer and DJ Marshmellow, the singer effortlessly displays her vocal gymnastics, hitting both high and low melodies and harmonizing with her own voice. The song has seen massive commercial success, topping the charts in Latvia and Poland while reaching the top 10 in numerous countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Lebanon, New Zealand, and many more. It also landed among the top 20 in Germany and the United States. 'Wolves' was also the second-most successful electronic song of 2018 in the US.

'The Heart Wants What It Wants'

When Selena releases boppers, she always brings her A-game, but dishes out equally impacting slower tracks. Selena has often been candid about her feelings and past relationships, but 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' leans more heart-on-sleeve. The battle between the mind and what goes on deep in the heart is never easy, and Selena's track is an outpour of heartbreak, honesty and emotion. The result is powerfully relatable.

'Rare'

A unique twist on pop music, 'Rare' plays a plucked bass groove, ethnically-charged percussion and electric instrumental backing. Its scaled-back sonic sense leaves you vibing and it is highlighted by Selena's beautiful sultry vocalizing. A tone of cheekiness is quipped in the chorus: "It feels like you don't care. Why don't you recognize I'm so rare? Always there. You don't do the same for me, that's not fair. I don't have it all. I'm not claiming to. But I know that I’m special (So special), yeah. And I’ll bet there's somebody else out there. To tell me I’m rare. To make me feel rare."

'It Ain't Me' with Kygo

Since its release in 2017, 'It Ain't Me' is one that fans keep coming back to and we can't forget it either. The undeniably catchy track, featuring Norwegian DJ Kygo, adopts a different clipped style of Selena's vocals in the chorus over dreamy music. Guitar licks, pulsing piano, pan flute and melodic synth all come together to form a sweet musical cocktail on this beautiful track. The lyrics are nostalgic and narrate a past relationship ruined by alcoholism. In the US, the song debuted at No 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at No 9 on the UK Singles Chart.

Destination Jam is a daily list of songs that will keep you entertained and grooving up top in lieu of feeling drained and losing the plot. Look out for a fresh selection of great tunes from MEAWW to refresh your mood every day!
