Melanie Martinez has been trending on social media of late and we have to recall some of her best music. If you're a new listener, what better way is there to introduce you to the electropop star than with some of her most popular hits? Check out the top five Melanie Martinez songs on our Destination Jam playlist below.

'The Bakery'

One of the first striking things to love about Melanie Martinez is her visual imagery and stage presence. The singer's art and music videos are otherworldly (apart from being drenched in pink aesthetics) and it's easy to get entranced if you prefer to sidestep from the mainstream. In 'The Bakery' music video, we see Martinez's head edited onto cookie dough in the shape of a girl as a baker dusts her with flour and begins rolling her out. It isn't until the end of the video that things take a darker turn when the cookie Martinez is then sliced and eaten with a whole lot of pouring blood, or jam, as we'd rather choose to believe.

'Cry Baby'

The first and self-titled track from her visual concept debut album 'Cry Baby', this track is the perfect opener to showcase the spooky side of Martinez. The music video begins with disturbing scenes and eery music before the singer features as a baby subject to force-feeding by an overbearing mother and even stacks wooden blocks to form the word "f**k." The video is bizarre and the music infectious, an artistic pairing often seen with the singer's craft, and one of the many examples that set her apart from conventional pop artistes.

'Mad Hatter'

In 'Mad Hatter', Martinez wraps up the debut LP's visual concept with a horror spin on Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. Over a resounding beat, distorted bass and staccato piano, Martinez takes a jab at her critics with lines like, "Over the bend, entirely bonkers/You like me best when I'm off my rocker/Tell you a secret, I'm not alarmed/So what if I'm crazy? The best people are."

'Dollhouse'

Going back to her very first single, 'Dollhouse', there is an emotive sense of nostalgia that comes with this Martinez classic. The song originally appeared on her debut EP of the same name and then later featured on 'Cry Baby'. Martinez has said that 'Dollhouse' is a metaphor for how people view celebrities and their seemingly perfect public lives, and such a notion still rings true for the year 2020. 'Dollhouse' received platinum certification in Canada and 2x platinum in the US.

'Show & Tell'

We close our Melanie Martinez playlist with one of her latest tracks. 'Show & Tell' is the fourth track featured on her sophomore album, 'K-12'. The official music video, originally available as part of the musical horror fantasy film 'K-12', was separately released on October 3, 2019. In the chorus, the singer taunts, "Show and tell/I'm on display for all you f**kers to see/Show and tell. Harsh words if you don't get a pic with me/Buy and sell (Buy and sell me, baby). Like I'm a product to society/Art don't sell/Unless you f**ked every authority."

Destination Jam is a daily list of songs that will keep you entertained and grooving up top in lieu of feeling drained and losing the plot. Look out for a fresh selection of great tunes from MEAWW to refresh your mood every day!
