Captain Sig Hansen

Sig's lineage is deeply rooted in the fishing industry, with his father Sverre being one of the pioneers of the crab trade in Alaska. Following in his father's footsteps, Sig started fishing at the tender age of 14, working alongside his father on the family boat. During summers, he even had the opportunity to fish in the frigid Norwegian waters. After completing his high school education, Sig devoted himself entirely to the fishing profession. His unwavering dedication paid off when, at the young age of 22, he secured the coveted position of relief captain on the Northwestern. It didn't take him long to prove himself, and within four years, he became the boat's full-time captain, becoming one of the youngest individuals to hold the position. Known for his no-nonsense approach, Sig has built a reputation as a tough captain who values loyalty and results above all else. He understands that success in his role depends entirely on his ability to bring in a bountiful catch. As the Hansen family patriarch, Sig takes immense pride in his crew and fiercely protects his top-performing operation and his hard-earned reputation. However, the past few seasons have challenged the indomitable Captain Sig's resilience. A major heart attack and the tragic sinking of the F/V Destination, which claimed the life of a close friend, have tested him like never before. Despite these hardships, Sig remains undeterred, his unwavering spirit unbroken by the tumultuous seas he calls home.

Mandy Hansen

Mandy, a renowned American fisherwoman, has made a name for herself in the fishing industry. She first appeared on the popular reality show, 'The Deadliest Catch,' at the tender age of thirteen, accompanying her father, Sig Hansen. Mandy was born in 1996 in the bustling city of Seattle, Washington, DC. While Mandy is not Sig Hansen's biological child, she has been a cherished member of the Hansen family since her adoption. Her mother, June Hansen, and her father, Sig, have always been her staunchest supporters, helping her pursue her passion for fishing. Mandy's love for fishing is evident in her personal life too. She has been in a long-term relationship with her boyfriend, Clark Pederson, whom she eventually married in 2017. The couple had been dating for almost three years before they tied the knot. The wedding was a grand affair and took place on the Northwestern ship. Everyone in attendance was dressed in traditional Norwegian attire, reflecting the Hansen family's deep connection to their heritage. With Mandy's unwavering passion and commitment to the fishing profession, it's no surprise that she has become a well-known figure in the industry. Her fierce spirit and determination have endeared her to fans of 'The Deadliest Catch' and inspired a new generation of aspiring fisherwomen.

Captain Linda Greenlaw

Linda Greenlaw's journey began in Connecticut, where she was born to Jim and Martha Greenlaw. Her father worked as an information systems manager for Bath Iron Works. However, Linda's family roots were firmly planted in Topsham, Maine, where she spent most of her childhood. During summers, Linda and her family would retreat to Isle au Haut, a tiny village of 70 people located off the coast of Maine. Linda attended Colby College, where she studied English and Government, showcasing her academic prowess. However, to help pay her way through college, Linda spent her summers as a cook and deckhand aboard the sword-fishing boat Walter Leeman. Her passion for fishing was only matched by her dedication to her studies, which she pursued with equal vigor.

After graduating in 1983, Linda continued to work for Alden Leeman, the owner of the Walter Leeman boat. In 1986, Alden Leeman installed Greenlaw as a swordfish captain when he acquired a second vessel, recognizing her potential and dedication. Linda proved herself as a capable and accomplished captain and continued working in the fishing industry. In 1991, Linda was the captain of the Hannah Boden when the Andrea Gail sank during the notorious Perfect Storm in the Atlantic. Linda's attempts to warn the Andrea Gail about the impending storm were immortalized in Sebastian Junger's 1997 book 'The Perfect Storm' and later in the movie adaptation, where she was portrayed by the talented Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Linda's remarkable achievements did not go unnoticed. She received the American Library Association's Alex Award in 2000 for her contributions to the literary world. She also received the United States Maritime Literature Award in 2003 and the New England Book Award for nonfiction in 2004, cementing her status as an icon in the fishing industry and beyond.

Captain Jake Anderson

Jake is not your average crab fisherman. He also happens to be a professional skateboarder, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. It wasn't until 2007 that Jake was introduced to the world of crab fishing by his uncle, Nick Mavar, a crewman on the Northwestern. Despite his initial hesitation, Jake quickly fell in love with the thrill of the catch and the camaraderie of the crew.

With his infectious personality and natural charisma, Jake quickly worked his way up the ranks, from greenhorn to full-share deckhand, to relief deck boss under the legendary Captain Sig Hansen. But after six years on the Northwestern, Jake felt the pull of bigger ambitions and decided to strike out on his own as captain of the Kiska Sea. It was a difficult season for Jake and his crew on the Kiska Sea. Despite giving it their all, the crew showed him little respect in return. Disheartened by the experience, Jake made the tough decision to leave the Kiska behind and return to the Northwestern. But he quickly learned that his departure had consequences, and he was forced to start at the bottom rung of the deck. Determined to prove himself once again, Jake worked tirelessly and chased after the wheelhouse with even more fervor. But life threw him curveballs along the way, including the sudden death of his sister, his father's tragic murder, and a battle with opiate addiction. Through it all, Jake found solace and purpose in his two beautiful children, Cadence and Aiden.

Sophia 'Bob' Nielsen

Sophia "Bob" Nielsen is a rising star in the world of commercial fishing. At just 23 years old, she has already set her sights on becoming the next captain of her family's fishing vessel, the F/V Victory. But before she can take the helm, she's determined to gain all the experience and knowledge she can by working under the tutelage of Captain Jake Anderson on the F/V Saga. Sophia comes from a long line of fishermen. Her grandfather and father were both captains of the F/V Victory, and she spent much of her childhood and teenage years working alongside them, learning the ins and outs of the industry. Fishing is in her blood, and she's always known that it's the career path she wants to pursue. However, Sophia's journey has not been without its challenges. She lost both of her parents in quick succession, leaving her to take on a leadership role in her family's business at a young age.

Despite the hardships she faced, she remained committed to carrying on the Nielsen legacy and taking the reins of the F/V Victory one day. In order to achieve her goals, Sophia knew that she needed to broaden her horizons and gain experience on different vessels. When she heard that Captain Jake Anderson was looking for a new captain in training for the F/V Saga, she jumped at the opportunity. Although it meant leaving her family's boat behind for a while, she saw it as a chance to learn from one of the best in the business and to gain valuable skills and knowledge that would serve her well in the future. Sophia's determination and passion have already made an impression on the crew of the F/V Saga. Despite being the youngest member of the team, she's proven herself to be a hard worker and a quick learner. Her dedication to the craft and her desire to carry on her family's legacy have earned her the respect of her fellow crew members. As Sophia continues to hone her skills and gain experience, she's focused on her ultimate goal of becoming the captain of the F/V Victory. With her talent, drive, and determination, there's no doubt that she has a bright future ahead of her in the world of commercial fishing.

Jacob Hutchins

Jacob Hutchins has always been drawn to the sea. Growing up in a landlocked city, he would spend hours poring over books about the ocean and the creatures that called it home. It wasn't until he was a teenager that he had the opportunity to see the sea in person, during a family vacation to the coast. From that moment on, Jacob was hooked. He spent all his free time learning everything he could about fishing, crab-fishing, and seafaring. His parents were skeptical of his ambitions, but Jacob was determined to make his dream a reality. After finishing high school, Jacob moved to Alaska and started working as a deckhand on various crabbing boats. He quickly gained a reputation as a hard worker and a quick learner, and his dedication and enthusiasm earned him a spot on the F/V Wizard, one of the most successful crab-fishing boats on the Bering Sea.

As a deckhand on the Wizard, Jacob has proven himself time and again. He has braved the treacherous seas and harsh weather of the Bering Sea, hauling in massive pots of king crab and opilio crab. He has earned the respect of his crewmates, and his quick thinking and calm demeanor in the face of danger have saved lives and kept the boat afloat in the most challenging conditions. But Jacob has his sights set even higher. He dreams of one day becoming a captain, one of the few African Americans to hold such a position on the Bering Sea. He knows it won't be easy; the fishing industry is notoriously difficult to break into, and racism and prejudice are still present in many parts of the country. But Jacob is determined to succeed, not just for himself but for other young people of color who may be inspired by his example. With Captain Keith Colburn as his mentor, Jacob is learning everything he can about what it takes to run a successful crabbing boat. He studies charts and weather reports, learns how to repair and maintain the boat's engines and equipment, and hones his leadership and communication skills.

He knows that he has a lot to learn, but he is eager to soak up every bit of knowledge and experience he can. As he works towards his goal of becoming a captain, Jacob is also passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion in the fishing industry. He hopes to inspire others like him to pursue their dreams and break down barriers that have historically kept people of color out of the fishing profession. For Jacob Hutchins, the sea is not just a job - it's a way of life, a calling, and a path towards a brighter future.

With his family quota backing him up, he secured his position as the new skipper of the F/V Barbara J, ready to take on the treacherous waters of the Bering Sea. However, his journey to the top is not going to be an easy one. The F/V Barbara J is a storied crabber, and the long-serving skipper Steve "Harley" Davidson is not going to give up control easily. Harley has spent years building his reputation as one of the best crabbers in the game and will fight to maintain his place at the helm. Jack knows that he has his work cut out for him if he wants to earn the respect of his crew and prove himself as a capable captain. Despite the challenges ahead, Jack is determined to make his mark. He has been preparing for this moment for years, working his way up the ranks from deckhand to captain. He knows the importance of hard work and dedication and is ready to put in the long hours necessary to succeed. Jack is not just a captain but also a husband and father. He has a supportive wife who understands the sacrifices required in the crab industry and two young children whom he hopes to inspire with his determination and work ethic. As he sets out on this new chapter in his life, Jack is confident that he has what it takes to lead the F/V Barbara J to success. With his family quota, a seasoned crew, and his own grit and determination, he is ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead and make his mark in the world of crab.

Rick Shelford

Rick Shelford, a name synonymous with the rich history of crabbing, is set to embark on a journey to continue his family's legacy of more than a century on the water. A fourth-generation crabber, Rick has seen the ups and downs of the industry and knows the value of hard work and determination. He joins forces with Captain Sean Dwyer on the F/V Aleutian Lady, a vessel that is also looking to etch its name in the annals of crab-fishing history.

Raised in the small town of Dutch Harbor, Rick grew up around crabbing and was immersed in it from a young age. He learned the ins and outs of the industry from his father, who, in turn, had learned it from his father. For Rick, crabbing is not just a job but a way of life, and he takes great pride in the fact that he is carrying on his family's tradition.

Joining Captain Sean Dwyer on the Aleutian Lady, Rick is determined to make a mark in the industry and continue his family's legacy. Both Rick and Sean have a lot in common, as they are both driven individuals with a deep passion for crab. Together, they are hoping to take the Aleutian Lady to new heights and create a legacy that will be talked about for generations. With his years of experience and knowledge of the industry, Rick is a valuable addition to the Aleutian Lady crew. He is well-respected by his peers and known for his hard work and dedication. His ultimate goal is to become one of the top crab captains in the industry and continue the Shelford family legacy.

Captain Keith Colburn

Captain Keith Colburn's story is one of determination and hard work, fueled by a deep passion for the sea. Born and raised in California, he was not born into a family of crabbers. In fact, he was the first in his family to pursue a career in fishing. But that did not stop him from chasing his dreams. It was in 1988 that Captain Colburn took his first steps in the fishing industry as a full-time deckhand on the Wizard. It was not long before his natural talent and drive caught the attention of his colleagues and superiors. He earned his US Coast Guard license in 1990, and from there, he worked his way up the ranks to become the captain of the Wizard, the vessel he started his career on.

Captain Colburn is not one to mince words or sugarcoat his expectations for his crew. He subscribes to tough love, pushing his team to their limits to bring in the biggest haul possible. However, beneath his gruff exterior lies a deep care and concern for his crew's safety and well-being. He looks out for them, even if he does not always show it. Despite his success as a captain, Captain Colburn has not been without his challenges. In recent years, he has faced mounting health problems, including an infection in his spine that kept him off the fishing grounds for the 2017-2018 season. But he remains determined to persevere, even as the stakes - both personal and professional - grow higher.

For Captain Colburn, crabbing is not just a job, but a way of life. It is a passion that runs deep in his veins, driving him to overcome any obstacle in his path. And with his sights set on the horizon, he remains committed to achieving even greater success in the years to come.

Steve 'Harley' Davidson

Steve "Harley" Davidson's journey to becoming a seasoned fisherman is a story of humble beginnings and a strong work ethic. Born in the bustling city of Los Angeles, California, he was the eldest of five siblings. When he was ten years old, his family moved to Washington, where he discovered fishing. However, his foray into the world of fishing did not start on a boat deck; instead, he began as a cook. Despite starting from the bottom, Davidson's passion for fishing and hard work paid off. His tenacity and dedication eventually caught the attention of his captain, who gave him the nickname "Harley" to differentiate him from the other Steves on board.

Davidson's reputation as a skilled fisherman quickly spread throughout the fleet. He built connections and made friends along the way, including Sig, who introduced him to his wife, and Sean Dwyer's dad, who helped him secure his first job as a crab boat captain. However, not all stories about Harley are warm and fuzzy. Keith, the captain of the Wizard, has had run-ins with Davidson in the past, accusing him of spot-checking his pots. Harley is not one to shy away from confrontation and is known for being a no-nonsense captain who values efficiency and results over making friends.

Despite any differences he may have with other captains, Harley and his crew remain focused on their goal: to catch as many crabs as possible and make a profit. His reputation as a fierce competitor and no-holds-barred captain has earned him respect among his peers, and his determination to succeed in the ever-challenging world of crab fishing continues to inspire new generations of fishermen.

Captain Sean Dwyer

Sean Dwyer, the young and determined captain of the F/V Brenna A, has a deep-rooted connection to the sea. As the son of Pat Dwyer, a well-respected fisherman, Sean has been following in his father's footsteps since he was a child. Growing up, he spent countless hours learning the ins and outs of commercial fishing and gaining invaluable experience on various vessels. After working as an engineer on the Jennifer A, Sean was given the opportunity to take the helm of the Brenna A, fulfilling his father's dying wish of returning the vessel to the crabbing grounds.

Despite his young age, Sean has proven himself as a skilled and strategic captain. He's not afraid to take risks and make tough decisions, always keeping the success of his crew and vessel in mind. Since taking over the Brenna A, Sean has made significant strides in his career. He purchased his own quota from Captain Wild Bill, a bold move that showcases his ambition and willingness to take on challenges. Now, he's set his sights on purchasing a third vessel, the F/V Determined, to expand his fishing empire.

But first, he must focus on maximizing profits in order to make his dream a reality. Sean's leadership style is a mix of loyalty and calculated manipulation. He's fiercely loyal to his crew and vessel, and will do whatever it takes to ensure their success. At the same time, he's not afraid to play the game and make strategic moves to achieve his goals. Although he's the youngest captain in the fleet, Sean has already made a name for himself as a rising star in the industry. With his unwavering determination and strategic mindset, there's no doubt that he'll continue to make waves in the world of commercial fishing.
