'Dancing with the Stars' Season 28: Christie Brinkley breaks arm during rehearsal, 21-year-old daughter Sailor to take her spot
Fans of ABC’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ were looking forward to the debut of the model, actress and entrepreneur Christie Brinkley as a dancer on Season 28 on Monday night. Unfortunately, they will have to wait a little longer.
65-year-old Brinkley reportedly suffered serious injuries to her arm during rehearsal and would require surgery in her wrist and arm, which has hindered her ballroom debut.
A statement from ABC and BBC Studios read: "Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm."
However, in the true spirit of "the show must go on,” her 21-year-old daughter and Sports Illustrated model Sailor Brinkley-Cook is stepping in for her mother.
With just hours to learn her mother’s first routine, Brinkley-Cook is going to join Valentin Chmerkovskiy, who has won the mirror ball trophy twice during his career on the show. "Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on 'Dancing with the Stars' this season," Brinkley joked about her injury in a statement. "Sailor joined the cast when I got mine… Ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh!"
Meanwhile, her daughter is hell-bent on ensuring her mother’s legacy is upheld. Excited about taking on the challenge, she told ABC’s 'Good Morning America', “I'm doing this mostly for my mom! I just want to make her happy and make her proud… She loved doing this, she loves dancing and she loves performing and getting hurt was her worst nightmare."
Brinkley-Cook also spoke about the high and excitement of tackling this new challenge: "I felt this high of just attacking something I was so afraid of and it felt like something I need to do," she said. "I think it will change me."
She seems to be a perfect replacement for Brinkley as even the outfit that was made for her did not have to be altered so it would fit her daughter.
