NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has apologized after being criticized for the jacket he wore to Super Bowl LVII. Damar wore a blue and white letterman jacket with yellow lettering and embellishments all over.

Former NFL player Adrian Peterson chastised Buffalo Bills safety Damar for wearing a provocative jacket to the Super Bowl. Damar has made an incredible recovery since suffering cardiac arrest on the field during the Bills' game against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2 and was honored on the field during Super Bowl LVII on Sunday. While the NFL and the rest of the sports world celebrated his return, Damar was criticized by some, including Adrian, for his attire. During the season finale, Damar was seen wearing a blue letterman's jacket with a picture of an altered face of Jesus on the front and the word 'Eternal' on the back and a similarly designed cross on the front.

Damar Hamlin issues apology

On February 15, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin stated that he never intended to insult anyone by wearing a jacket with an inappropriate portrayal of Jesus to the Super Bowl. "After talking with my parents I understand how my coat could have offended some people. It was never my intentions to hurt or disrespect anyone, the coat is abstract art to me. It says Eternal which I am Eternally thankful to my Savior!" Damar stated this in a tweet.

Damar concluded his two-part thread by noting that he will continue to learn from the incident and that "My beliefs and Relationship with God is not tied to symbolic images."

According to TMZ, the jacket was created by artist Takashi Murakami and cost $3,150. Damar was also seen wearing it while sitting in the stands with Donna Kelce, the mother of Jason and Travis Kelce, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

'You knew exactly what you were doing'

Still questioning the reasoning behind the jacket and his apology, a fan asked, "How is an absurd picture of Jesus on the cross with children’s game style items of clothing and blue hair not equal or much worse than taking the lords name in vain?" Another bashed him saying, "… God will judge you. As he will do all of us. I’m not here to judge you. But you didn’t injury your eyes. Your eyes can see and read everything on that jacket. How dare you recite one of his verses from his scripture whenever you were already mocking another." Calling him out on the pick of his designer, another person wrote, "You're lying. No way you have no idea of the designer. Here's more of his "art". "Sex" "Cash from chaos" "Satan" Your god and my God are not the same being." Some were not happy with his apology either, "That wasn't an apology."

Asking him to get help a fan wrote, "I am deeply concerned. I prayed harder for you than any human ever. I’m grateful that you have the support of a loving family and loyal fans, but something is wrong in your head. Get help. I’m here to stand with you." A follower also commented, "You knew exactly what you were doing."
