LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ex-Detroit Lions player Stanley Wilson Jr, died at the age of 40 at a mental health facility. The Detroit franchise's defensive back was at the Metropolitan State Hospital during his death earlier this month.

With one count of second-degree burglary and two felony counts of vandalism, Wilson was charged in 2022 after he broke into a $30 million Hollywood Hills mansion. On two separate occasions, the player damaged and moved items in the mansion on August 24, 2022, and most recently took bath in a fountain outside the home.

How did Stanley Wilson Jr die?

The former NFL player reportedly died after he collapsed at the facility during intake. "Foul play is not suspected," according to sources cited by TMZ, while, "autopsy results are pending toxicology."

The player's death took place months after his arrest over the burglary charges. Arrested on both times he allegedly broke into the home, Wilson has caused damage of $5,000 following the outdoor bath. On February 1, he was shifted to the mental hospital after he was declared unfit to stand trial after he resided in the Marion county jail.

How did Stanley Wilson Jr's NFL career end?

In 2000, Wilson enrolled at the Northern California school and between 2001 to 2004, he played for the Cardinal football team. With 32 games played throughout his career, Wilson was popular at Stanford college before the Lions drafted him.

In 2005, Wilson who played three seasons was taken in the NFL Draft's third round by the Lions. In 2008, Wilson's career in the game went downhill after he suffered an Achilles injury (an injury of the Achilles tendon). The incident took place during an exhibition game against New England.

While being naked and breaking into a Portland residence, a homeowner shot Wilson during his attempt and was then taken into custody. In the same manner, he was arrested again after he broke into the home, reported Daily Mail.

Who was Stanley Wilson Sr?

Wilson Jr was the son of Stanley Wilson Sr who was the Cincinnati Bengals' running back. Intermittently in 1983-84, 1986, and 1988, he played for the Ohio franchise. After violating the drug policy of the NFL, he was suspended for entire seasons in 1985 and 1987. 

In 1989, Bengals position coach Jim Anderson caught the player high on cocaine during the eve of Super Bowl XXII and was suspended for the game, in which Cincinnati was defeated. Following his third drug offense, he was banned from the game for life. The player was then taken into custody and sentenced to 22 years in jail over a burglary in a Beverly Hills home in 1999.
