During the ceremony, the singer gave an entertaining performance which garnered a standing ovation. Before the performance she said, "This is for Kobe", in reference to the US star basketball player's death. He died on January 26.

Lizzo also won Best Traditional R&B Performance earlier for 'Jerome', which marked her first-ever Grammy win. She later pulled a third award for Best Pop Solo Performance for 'Truth Hurts'.

Lizzo has also been deemed one of EW's 2019 Entertainers of the Year, which she received in December.

The nominations for the 2020 Grammys included:

'Apollo XXI': Steve Lacy

Last year's winner for the Best Urban Contemporary Album went to The Carters album 'Everything Is Love'.

A sub-genre under the R&B field, originally monikered the Gramophone Awards and first established in 1958, the Best Urban Contemporary Album Award is given to recording artists for quality works on R&B albums.

This category was one of the three newly created categories for the 55th Grammy Awards. It is intended for albums containing at least 51 percent playing time of newly recorded contemporary vocal tracks derivative of R&B. This category is intended for artists whose music includes the more contemporary elements of R&B and may incorporate production elements found in urban pop, urban Euro-pop, urban rock and urban alternative.
