'Crisis on Infinite Earths' Part 2: From Captain America to Superman, 2019 is the year of superheroes fighting themselves

Whatever else you might say about 'Crisis', the crossover has certainly given us a lot of great moments and seeing Superman fight Superman was a great treat for the fans.

The greatest enemy you will ever face is yourself. Or an alternate version of you, if you're a superhero who gets to use multiverses and time travel to fulfill your self-hating and masochistic tendencies.

Seriously though, this year has seen more superheroes fighting themselves than ever before starting with Steve Rogers / Captain America (Chris Evans) fighting his past self in 'Avengers: Endgame'. For one thing, these scenes are usually pretty funny or at the very least they're cool demonstrations of a hero's skill.

In the comics, we've had multiple instances of Batman on Batman violence this year, including the Dark Knight's battles with his darker counterpart, the Batman Who Laughs. In fact, at the moment Bruce Wayne's biggest enemy in the comics is an alternate version of Batman, though this one is actually his father Thomas Wayne instead of being Bruce himself.

The Arrowverse had a doppelganger fight of sorts right at the beginning of 'Arrow' Season 8 with Oliver Queen / Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) fighting the Green Arrow (or rather the Hood) of Earth-2, Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra). While that meeting gave us a cool fight, some hilarity, and a Batman reference, we always knew we'd be getting more such fights once 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' started in earnest and the crossover hasn't disappointed us on that count.

In 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' Episode 2, we got an intense Superman vs Superman fight between Tyler Hoechlin's Superman and Brandon Routh's Superman. Though the fight may have eventually been resolved without either of the Men of Steel conceding defeat, that doesn't make it any less cool seeing the two Kryptonians duking it out, complete with a 'Man of Steel'-style collision moment.

Whatever else you might say about 'Crisis', the crossover has certainly given us a lot of great moments and seeing Superman fight Superman was a great treat for the fans. Hopefully, the event actually delivers on storytelling as well as it progresses because right now we're just in it for Easter eggs and scenes like this one.

'Crisis on Infinite Earths' Part 3 will air exclusively on The CW on December 10.
