Chrissy Teigen presiding over a court with quips and jabs is a role the model was gearing up to play for years
Chrissy Teigen wears many hats and with aplomb. She smoothly tackles her roles as a model, chef, political activist and adorable mother to her two kids. And now she is a judge too. As Chrissy preps to floor her fans one more time with her quip and jabs on 'Chrissy's Court' (releasing April 6) on short-form mobile video platform Quibi, we will see her settling petty claims such as custody battle over a pet to significant other not watching a show. And all of this wild fun, compiled in a 10-minute episode. To keep it simple for viewers, 'Chrissy's Court' will deal with just one case per episode.
As Chrissy gets ready to bring down the gavel, we look at how her journey has been so far.
Chrissy has been a supermodel for years now and has flooded billboards and magazines with ease. She is not ashamed or afraid to show off her curves. A couple of years ago, she trolled Victoria's Secret expertly on Twitter and had fans convinced she was in Shanghai to close the show.
It was a fantastic day of sarcasm. She shared posts at regular intervals, informing her followers that she was ready for the show and that Justin Bieber and Gisele Bündchen had even left her congratulatory flowers. Later, she even retweeted a photo of the VS models in one frame and requested that she be photoshopped into it. By then, people had caught on to her game. While some played along, there were a few who called her out.
Chrissy has a bold personality. She isn't one to measure her steps. Of course, the extent of her openness, is at times, limited by her status as a celebrity adored by millions worldwide, but mostly she appears as a very straight forward kind of individual who never holds back from telling it like it is.
Last year, she engaged in a Twitter feud with Donald Trump shortly after he addressed her as the "filthy-mouthed wife" of John Legend. In a surprise twist, she thanked him for not tagging her and said it was an honor. Trump criticized her and John for not praising the prison reform initiatives he had undertaken appropriately. Not that that mattered to the couple. They have their own way of elevating their political activism, especially Chrissy.
For her, her thoughts and care for people affected and tangled in a mess created by elaborate political agendas, go beyond hashtags on social media. When women in Alabama were reeling from the after-effects of a stringent abortion bill, Chrissy and John decided to get in touch with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) directly to see if they could be of any assistance.
"John and I like to take it a step further and connect directly with the ACLU, or connect directly with people that are being affected in Alabama, and make our donations that way," she told Bustle and added that her activism just doesn't stop at retweets. To be able to really make a difference, one must be willing to actively do something about the cause they stand for.
Another such cause is immigration. It's a matter very close to her heart. Chrissy's mother is an immigrant from Thailand. In 2018, after Trump's policies to detain and separate immigrant families at the US border started to take shape, Chrissy, with her family, attended the Families Belong Together March. In her impassioned speech, she said how immigrants were contributing to the nation adding that she was proud to be one.
Chrissy stands for a lot of things, and apart from the serious causes that she has associated herself with over the years, wit and humor is something she is known for. Let's hope with 'Chrissy's Court' we are able to see more of it.
