Chris Pine returns to Netflix in new survival thriller from ‘Conjuring’ director — everything we know so far
'Wonder Woman' star Chris Pine has been tapped for Michael Chaves' next. Pine will star in Yeti, a new survival thriller for Netflix. The ensemble cast also includes Ray Winstone, Sofia Boutella, and Iona Bell. Per Variety, "Yeti takes place deep in the Alps, where an avalanche has unleashed something primeval from the glacial ice. With no hope of rescue, a father (Pine) and his daughter (Bell) must fight to survive against a merciless predator that blends in with the snow." Erik Feig and Jessica Switch serve as producers alongside Dan Kagan. Peter Gaffney came in with rewrites along with Sean Tretta. Ritter and Pine serve as executive producers.
The film marks a genre switch for Pine, who was last seen in 'Carouse', a romance drama where he stars alongside Jenny Slate. His future projects include starring opposite Emma Stone in 'The Catch', and will next be seen in sci-fi comedy 'Alpha Gang', by David and Nathan Zellner. Director Chávez is best-known for his 'Conjuring' projects, including 'The Curse of La Llorona', 'The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It', 'The Nun II ', and 'The Conjuring: Last Rites', which became a commercial success, grossing just over $500M worldwide.
This comes on the back of news that Chaves was writing horror comic ‘Corpse Knight.’ The comic follows Foy, a young girl who tragically loses her father. While he strugges to take care of herself, a miracle is granted where her father comes back from the dead to protect her. "Her dad’s murdered. And he miraculously resurrects, we’re not sure how. But our little character has heard stories of Joan of Arc, and she believes that if she gets to Joan, she’ll be able to set things right. It’s a little bit of Wizard of Oz. They set out on their journey and things go horribly wrong." Chaves teased during his chat with THR.
Like relationships forming the central theme of his films, 'Yeti' echoes his previous comment on his style of making films. "A lot of my movies tell of that relationship,” he told the outlet. "I’ve got two kids of my own, and so much of this book is me grappling with my own mortality. The idea that I’m not going to be here at a certain point, and my kids have to figure it out without me, and how terrifying that is." For now, there isn't a lot to say about a release date or a potential window for 'Yeti'.
