Chloe Zhao roped in to direct movie adaptation of 'Hamnet' by Maggie O'Farrell
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The acclaimed Shakespearean-era novel 'Hamnet' by Maggie O'Farrell will be adapted by director Chloé Zhao, Oscar winner for 'Nomadland', for Amblin Partners.
The movie script is being written by Zhao and O'Farrell. The project has the support of Amblin Partners, Hera Pictures, Neal Street Productions, and Book of Shadows.
The main character is Agnes, William Shakespeare's wife, who is lamenting the death of her son Hamnet. The filmmaker is also renowned for ‘The Rider,’ which she followed up with Marvel Studios' 'Eternals.’ The production will be overseen by Mia Maniscalco, senior VP creative affairs, and Jeb Brody, president of production at Amblin.

O'Farrell, an Edinburgh native, is also the writer of the Sunday Times No 1 highest selling narrative 'I Am, I Am, I Am' and nine novels: 'After You'd Gone', 'My Lover's Lover', 'The Distance Between Us', 'The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox', 'The Hand that First Held Mine', 'Instructions for a Heatwave', 'This Must be the Place', and 'Hamnet'.
'The Distance Between Us' ended up winning a Somerset Maugham Award. 'The Marriage Portrait', her most recent book, was named to the Women's Prize for Fiction 2023 longlist. 'Where Snow Angels Go' and 'The Boy Who Lost His Spark' are two of her children's novels.
Chloe Zhao's future projects
Zhao has been roped in to helm a number of movies, including 'Hamnet'.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she revealed she was working on a sci-fi western Dracula movie that has been in development since early 2021.
