When we last saw the folks of 'Chicago P.D.'. Detective Jay Halstead had confessed the real story of Marcus West's incarceration and his innocence to the late man's girlfriend.

To recap, when the Intelligence Unit used facial recognition software to identify the killer of two boys, the software spits out Marcus West's name. Convinced that the man is guilty (after all, they were told that the software is more than 99% accurate), Halstead throws Marcus in the county jail to get him to confess. But, Marcus is badly beaten up for his supposed crimes and is in hospital under a coma. It is later that Halstead and co. learns that Marcus is innocent, after all, and that the software is less reliable, the darker the suspects are.

Marcus dies and in order to save face, the police department frames him while leaking the real name of the killer to the relatives of the two boys killed so that they can get their own vengeance.

However, Halstead is not capable of putting things in the past as his boss, Hank Voight is. And so, he takes on a fake name and starts helping Angela -- Marcus's girlfriend -- and her son out with chores and occasionally by giving her money.

In the fall finale, Angela and Halstead get kidnapped over stolen drugs, and in captivity -- possibly convinced to come clean because of their dire situation -- Halstead confesses everything. By the end of the episode, Halstead manages to subdue the kidnappers, but Angela shoots him.

In the preview for this week's episode, we see that Angela plans to tell the public about Marcus's real story while Halstead lies fighting for his life in the hospital.

Viewers might be ready to side with Halstead, but we must be ready to see that there's truth to what Angela is saying as well. What was done to Marcus West was not only illegal and unfair, but it was downright cruel.

Of course, Halstead is one of the better men on the team -- one who most likely would be more respectful of the right thing to do from now on should he survive.

'Chicago P.D.' airs on NBC on Wednesday nights.
